A mother who mugged a 77-year-old woman has been granted bail after claiming being freed would allow her to meet her daughter for the first time in 13 years.

Dawn Barclay was released from court when her lawyer said she had set up a meeting with the daughter she hasn't seen since she was a toddler. Solicitor David Duncan, defending, told Dundee Sheriff Court: "She is due to travel to Corby in Northamptonshire tomorrow [WED] to see her 16-year-old daughter who is not in her care. She hasn't seen her daughter face-to-face since 2011 as a result of her prior difficulties.

"As she is anticipating the court will consider all options, including custody, she is anxious to keep this scheduled appointment as she appreciates the availability of an alternative period of contact may be unlikely." Barclay, 39 [29-5-84], of Denfield Avenue, Cardenden, admitted robbing Mary Davie in Kinghorne Drive, Dundee, on 2 August 2022, by stealing her handbag and cigarettes.

Mr Duncan said: "She was under a significant drug difficulty at the time this offence was committed and that is something she has been able to address." Sheriff John MacRitchie granted bail and told Barclay her release should not give her the impression that she would not ultimately be jailed for the offence. Sentencing was deferred for background reports.
