Rio Ferdinand has criticised Arsenal fans for over-celebrating Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Manchester City - a result that helped the Gunners remain top of the Premier League table.

Arsenal are sitting at the summit on goal difference with 10 games to play, level on points with Liverpool and one ahead of reigning champions City. The Gunners' controversial 2-1 victory at home to Brentford on Saturday was their eighth successive top-flight win and while Ferdinand hopes to see Arsenal lift the trophy come May, the behaviour of certain Gunners supporters ends up leaving him with mixed emotions.

On Ferdinand's Vibe with FIVE podcast, co-host and Arsenal fan Joel Beya turned up for Monday's show with a fake cigar and wearing sunglasses before someone off camera popped confetti over the desk. Beya also placed a mini replica of the Premier League trophy in front of him for the entire episode, basking in the great form which Mikel Arteta's side are in.

Ferdinand was bemused, though, criticising Beya and any other Arsenal supporters who are celebrating being top at this stage. The former Manchester United defender remarked: "What am I seeing? ...There are three teams playing now to win the league which is Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal - I actually want you boys to win it. But you and some of your fans make me not want you to win it."

It's not the first time in recent weeks that Ferdinand has had a light-hearted clash with the Arsenal fan base, having been on the same plane to Porto as many of them last month. The ex-United centre-back claimed a few days prior that Gunners winger Bukayo Saka wasn't "world class," and he addressed the backlash over the tannoy after landing in Portugal.

"Hello guys, I just want to say it's been an absolute pleasure travelling with you Arsenal fans," Ferdinand began. "I must say, Saka is a fantastic player, just not world class yet. He will be one day, but just not yet."

Although he and those same fans both want Arsenal to lift the trophy, Ferdinand doesn't appear to think that Saka and his teammates will end their 20-year wait to win the Premier League title this season. After City's dramatic 3-2 comeback win against Newcastle in January, he told TNT Sports: "Watch momentum kick in now and these guys know what to do.

"These guys know when to put the pedal to the floor and it looks like now everybody is going to be looking over their shoulders and looking around and saying, they are coming. They know how to get the job done, they have the experience, the depth, the class, the quality and the firepower. Formidable."
