'I paid stepson's tuition but refuse to do same for stepdaughter - she hates me'
A mum is being laid into by her stepdaughter because she won't pay her tuition fees, even though she willingly paid for her brother's. The 39-year-old, however, said the teen never liked her in the first place and made her daughter's life at home a misery.
Using a throwaway Reddit account, the upset parent wrote: "I married my husband, 54, six years ago. Together 8. He has two children - one aged 20 and Emma, 19. I have a daughter, nine. I was a widow when I met my husband.
"Emma had severe issues with her father getting married again while her brother got along very well with me and my daughter. He is the best older brother out there. Emma did not like me and she treated my daughter very badly too to the degree that she almost never left my arms when her sister was home."
Emma left home when she was 15 to move in with her mum, according to the stepmum. She also went on to explain that her previous husband had left her a "small fortune" in his will - but the money was left alone as she had a financially secure job.
The post continued: "So last year I helped pay my stepson’s tuition. I am planning to do that with my daughter too, and the rest I will add to my daughter. My stepdaughter is very angry now calling me the a*****e. Am I?

"I never had a good relationship with her. She always hated me and I don’t think she’s becoming a good person and honestly, I would rather leave more to my daughter than pay for her ungrateful a**."
Now, her husband thinks she's being unfair to Emma and it's created an uncomfortable atmosphere in the family: "My husband is sad because he thinks I am being unjust. I am very sad about it but I still don’t feel I am the a*****e."
An update was shared at the bottom of the post that appeared to be an exchange between the stepmum and Emma: "Hi Emma! Unfortunately, I have no means to pay for your education nor do I understand why you would expect me to however I can help with finding you student jobs on evenings and weekends. I know many children doing that including myself.. Wish you good luck”. Underneath was the apparent, curt reply: “Ok, ok whatever, b***h.”

Around 3,200 users weighed in on the family rift in just two days following the post - and it wasn't looking good for Emma. One responded: "Your stepdaughter is a vile entitled person, you are under No obligation to fund her... but it's your husband and her mother to fund her schooling."
Another wrote: "She is just p****d that she is realizing that there are consequences to her actions. She treated you and your daughter like c**p, and now she thinks she deserves something from you. Hell nah." But not everyone was so quick to call out Emma, as one explained: "She might not be turning out “bad”. Humans are complex creatures. She may just not fit the recipe with stepmum... Stepmum owes her nothing, but the girl doesn’t deserve to be villainized based on the limited info here."
