Cillian Murphy received one of the highest honours that can be bestowed on a man over the weekend - Madonna 's approval.

The Irish actor, 47, was the toast of Hollywood on Sunday night, as he celebrated his Oscars success and partied with his beloved family and famous faces after being announced as the winner of the Best Actor gong for his breathtaking performance in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer.

Peaky Blinders actor Cillian was joined by his wife Yvonne McGuinness and his two lookalike sons inside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, as he made history at the 96th Academy Awards and became the first Irish-born star to win the Best Actor award for his portrayal of J Robert Oppenheimer.

The award-winning was blessed with another honour just a few hours on from collecting the coveted gong, as he partied with one of his biggest fans, Madonna. The Material Girl singer, 65, was quick to gush over the Oscar winner as she shared a snap of herself posing along Cillian at an afterparty.

"Oscar Party was FUN!" Madonna, who is currently on tour, captioned the snap on Instagram, adding: "Not exactly A night off for a. Cork-born Cillian, was seen giving his wife Yvonne, 51, a big hug and a kiss before he went up on stage to get his award from the Academy on Sunday night, with Oppenheimer having an incredibly night overall - picking up seven awards in total, including Best Picture, Best Director and Cillian's Best Actor gong.

Cillian and Yvonne first met in the '90s and got married in 2004. In his speech, Cillian thanked Yvonne and their children. "Yvonne McGuiness, my partner in life and art. My two boys, Malachy and Aran who are sitting up there. I love you so much," the star confessed as he delivered his acceptance speech. "I'm a very proud Irishman standing here tonight," Cillian added as he held up his Oscar trophy to the star-studded crowd, before thanking everyone in the Irish language.

Last month, Cillian confessed in a chat with BBC Radio 4 that his wife Yvonne has been a rock in his successful career. She's been there to help him handle the tricky parts of fame, like walking red carpets which he finds "quite challenging. He admitted that his wife's support is "crucial" and spoke lovingly about their two children.

"To have a really secure, solid base is important. You have to have that safe place. I certainly do. It's just like an island of comfort and ease," he explained. "It's been crucial, honestly. I don't think I could have done any of the things that we've talked about without having them. It's been the most important thing for me, having those kids and raising them."
