Kyle Walker explains motivation fuelling Man City to beat Liverpool and Arsenal

Kyle Walker insists Manchester City have got the “hunger” to overcome Liverpool in the title race.

‌Liverpool and City are involved in a three-horse title race with Arsenal which is the first time it has been this close in ten years. The top three are separated by just one point just ten games to go in one of the most exciting title races in the history of the Premier League.

‌Arsenal are still seen as the outsiders by the bookies despite their recent run of big-scoring wins and they have been on a remarkable eight game winning streak.‌ Liverpool are driven by the chance to win four trophies this season which would also be an incredible send-off for Jurgen Klopp who wants to turn his farewell into one long victory parade.

‌But City have the experience and know-how as they chase down a record-breaking fourth consecutive title and are still in the hunt to repeat last year’s Treble.‌ It is neck-and-neck and could go right to the wire but Walker insists that City’s experience and history of winning trophies could be the deciding factor.

City and Liverpool played out an intense draw at Anfield when Klopp’s men missed the chance to go clear and Walker says the champions have their sights set on history. Walker said: “This is why this is the best league in the world - players want to come here, play and compete in this league.

‌“It’s great for the Premier League - to have three teams so close, at the top of their game with great players, it’s a great spectacle. We need to make sure we’re there and fighting until the end as we always do.

“To win three Premier Leagues in a row is fantastic but to do four which no one has ever done, that’s what we are striving for - that’s our hunger. There’s a lot of football to be played and there’s going to be a lot of twist and turns - as there always is throughout every season. We need to make sure they go in our favour and we’re at the top. We’ll keep fighting.”

‌Arsenal took full advantage this weekend as they beat Brentford to go top and then Liverpool and City’s draw meant they stayed there. Having gone ahead at Anfield, it could be seen as a blow that City only drew. But Walker insists it is still too early to win or lose titles and Arsenal have to go to the Etihad next.

Walker said: “We came here to win and put a stance on the Premier League, but the Premier League is not decided yet. There’s so much football and key, important games to play.‌

“We’ve not lost here - we go into the big period now after the international break and try to clinch these four Premier Leagues in a row.‌ It’s always going to be a big game against Arsenal.

"We don’t worry about other teams, we’re careful. We show them the respect they deserve but we’re the reigning champions and have a crown to defend.

‌“The Liverpool game wasn’t going to decide the Premier League, it was going to put you in a step in the right direction to ultimately get that four in a row. We’ve got a lot of important games left; we’ll keep fighting right until the very end like we always do.”

The narrative has also been about Klopp versus Pep Guardiola and a fairytale farewell for the Liverpool boss when he leaves this summer. Walker says that rivalry only drives them on but he claimed Guardiola still has the edge over Klopp no matter what happens next.

Walker added: “It’s been a special and enjoyable rivalry. When you’ve got two teams fighting for the top - we’ve had some great games over the last number of years - I have to say big congratulations for what he’s (Klopp) done.

‌“What he’s (Guardiola) done and the clubs he’s managed and the players he’s been able to coach… he’s nothing short of being a genius.‌ That’s ultimately down to the work ethic he puts into the matches, the training sessions and the detail - we just have to execute the plan.”
