Mauricio Pochettino "not happy" at Chelsea after Todd Boehly sack admission
Mauricio Pochettino is unhappy and frustrated at Chelsea due to a lack of involvement in decision making at the club, according to Alan Brazil.
Pochettino joined Chelsea in the summer on a two-year contract and has endured a difficult debut campaign at the helm. The Blues are 11th in the Premier League and have won just 10 of their 26 matches, despite over £1billion being spent on players in the Todd Boehly era.
The former Tottenham manager has experienced a backlash from Chelsea fans recently, with some calling for Jose Mourinho ’s return during the 2-2 draw with Brentford last weekend. Pochettino gave an eyebrow-raising reply when asked about the fans’ thoughts ahead of the game against Newcastle on Monday night and Brazil thinks it hints at the deep-running problems inside the club.
“I don’t think Mauricio Pochettino is happy at Chelsea,” the former Scotland international told talkSPORT BET. “I don’t think he has had any say behind the scenes. I think he’s frustrated by a lack of involvement. He wants players out and wants new players in, his own type of players.
“He’s seen enough of his squad now to realise what he doesn’t want and there is some deadwood there. But I don’t think the Chelsea owners will allow him to do that. They’ll tell him, ‘we’re buying the players. Who do you want rid of? We’ll get rid of them but we’re buying the players’. It’s a problem for Pochettino. I don’t know who exactly from the Chelsea board is bringing the players in, but it’s not Pochettino, and I don’t think Pochettino really knows who his boss is.”
Chelsea complete record-breaking Enzo Fernandez transfer after deadline day rushPochettino has previously voiced his displeasure with the way Chelsea recruit players, suggesting in December it is “crazy” not to involve the manager. But Chelsea owner Boehly has continued to take a hands-on role with transfers, despite spending big on some high-profile flops.
Things have clearly not been functioning well behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge and Pochettino’s comments about the possibility of Mourinho returning for a third spell show the cracks appearing. "Look, I respect Jose, he is my friend. He was amazing for this club, his medals here are amazing,” he said.
HAVE YOUR SAY! Will Mauricio Pochettino still be Chelsea manager at the start of the 2024/25 season? Comment below.
"We need to be pushing and believe in us and accept the things that come from the fans. If the players believe that with another coach they can do better... maybe they can talk with the owner or sporting director. You need to ask the players. You can ask. Do you see me worried about this?
"No. Is it a problem of attitude? No. It is a problem? No. You can see in the way that they behave that they are behind us. Of course there is no doubt."
