Amazon has unveiled the official trailer for Fallout, the upcoming post-apocalyptic series based on the hit video game franchise. The cinematic footage – which maintains the game’s expansive world-building and signature dark humour – sees vault dweller Lucy (Ella Purnell) struggle to adapt to the twisted and dangerous world of the irradiated wasteland and offers the first glimpse of Moldaver (Sarita Choudhury) and Ma June (Dale Dickey).

The more than three-minute trailer also reveals that the series will premiere all eight episodes exclusively on Prime Video on April 11, one day sooner than previously announced. It will be available to stream with an Amazon Prime subscription, which usually costs £8.99 a month or £95 a year and comes with a host of benefits like next-day delivery, Amazon Music Prime, Deliveroo Plus and free delivery on HelloFresh orders for a year – while Prime Video alone can be joined for £5.99 a month.

But Fallout fans can sign up today and access all these great benefits free thanks to Prime’s 30-day free trial. This means loads of great films and shows – including The Boys, Saltburn and Donald Glover’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith – can be watched without paying a penny.

Prime Video has billed Fallout as a “story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have.” It follows a brand-new original story set in the world of the immensely popular retro-futuristic video games.

Its official synopsis reads: “Taking place 200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind – and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent universe waiting for them.”

Fallout stars Yellowjackets’ Ella Purnell as Lucy, an optimistic Vault Dweller from Vault 33 and the show’s protagonist, alongside The Hateful Eight’s Walton Goggins as a ruthless bounty hunter known as The Ghoul. Other stars include Twin Peaks’ Kyle MacLachlan as Hank – the Overseer of Vault 33 and Lucy’s father – and Emancipation’s Aaron Moten as Brotherhood of Steel soldier Maximus.

The series comes from Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, who have partnered with Fallout video game publisher Bethesda Game Studios. Nolan – the brother of Oppenheimer filmmaker Christopher Nolan – also directs the opening three episodes.
