A Doctor Who star made an unexpected appearance during Ryan Gosling's I'm Just Ken performance at the Oscars.

Ncuti Gatwa joined in the performance of the huge hit from blockbuster Barbie during the Academy Awards on Sunday night. The actor, who is currently playing the fifteenth incarnation of the Doctor in the BBC series, made an appearance on stage. Ken star Ryan dressed in a pink sparkly suit as he was bathed in pink light and sang the beloved song.

He was joined by other Kens for the dance routine, including Ncuti who played Artist Ken in the hit film. Fans loved his cameo as one said: "Ncuti Gatwa is having the time of his life right now on the #Oscars stage! And this whole #ImJustKen bit is the best the show has been in twenty years." Another added: "i'm just ken ate why lie lmao that was so fun AND NCUTI GATWA (DOCTOR WHO) WAS THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #Oscars."

Someone else commented: "We knew "I'm Just Ken" would be the peak of tonight's show. We were not wrong. Shout-out to all the other Kens who joined Gosling on stage for that epic. We see you Simu, Kingsley, Ncuti (and maybe more I missed)! #Oscars." A fourth wrote: "NCUTI WAS THERE NCUTI WAS THERE NCUTI WAS THERE THAT'S MY DOCTOR WHO #Oscars."

Viewers were impressed by Ryan's performance as he was also joined by Guns N Roses guitarist Slash. "Did I just see Slash performing #ImJustKen at the #Oscars with Ryan Gosling?" one fan wrote. Another added: "The Ryan Gosling x Slash collab I didn't know I needed."

Others gushed over Ryan's voice as one said: "Someone give Ryan Gosling a record deal NOW." He also gave the microphone to Barbie director Greta Gerwig, actress Margot Robbie, and Emma Stone to sing a bit of the song. Greta and Margot were famously snubbed as from the a Best Director nomination and Best Actress respectively.

Ryan previously declared "there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie". Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel kicked off the show by addressing Margot and Greta's snub. He said: "Now Barbie is a feminist icon, thanks to Greta Gerwig, who many believed deserved to nominated for best director tonight."

The audience applauded as Kimmel joked: "Hold on a second. I know you're clapping, but you're the ones who didn't vote for her, by the way. Don't act like you had nothing to do with this." Turning his attention to Margot and Ryan, he said: "If neither of you wins an Oscar tonight, I would like to say you won something much better, the genetic lottery.”

Ryan released a statement where he said: "I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films. And I never thought I’d being saying this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken.

"But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film. No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius. To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.

"Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history. Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees. Having said that, I am so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to making this such a groundbreaking film."
