What is the 6 Horses Challenge?

The free-to-play 6 Horses Challenge requires bet365 users to pick six winning horses across six chosen races, on a given day. The 6 Horses Challenge gives new and eligible customers the chance to win a share of a Jackpot by correctly predicting six winners from six selected races.

Cash prizes are also available for players who don’t manage to correctly pick all six, with a share of the prize pool available for selecting four or five winners. Across the Festival, we’ll be running the challenge every day, giving four separate opportunities for customers to win thousands in jackpot and consolation prizes!

Cheltenham Festival Boosted Jackpots

To celebrate the biggest week of the year in Horse Racing, here at bet365 we’ve decided to boost our jackpot prize pot for the 6 Horses Challenge from the usual £25,000 to £100,000 every day and even a huge £250,000 for Gold Cup Friday for anyone who identifies six winners!

This means that players who correctly predict four or five winners, will still receive a consolation payout, to be determined by the number of players also correctly predicting four or five winners.

Prize pool breakdown for the Festival are as follows:

The jackpot has been won previously – is it time for another winner?

Maximum jackpots and consolation prizes have been aplenty in recent weeks, with one lucky punter taking home a boosted jackpot of £50,000 over the New Year’s weekend, landing winning predictions from Taunton, Newbury and Wolverhampton. Plenty of consolation prizes have been awarded to players in the weeks leading up to the Festival, with some weeks seeing upwards of 50 people falling just one prediction short of the jackpot! Meaning they still walk away with a confirmed share of the £10,000 consolation prize from the free-to-play game.

Alongside those falling just short of the big prize, we’ve been seeing regularly over 1,000 punters correctly predicting 4 of the 6 winners, meaning that with our increased consolation prize pools on Gold Cup Friday these players will be taking home a share of £25,000 for their efforts, not a bad day in the office for a free-to-play game!

As well as our 6 Horses Challenge you can catch the entire Cheltenham Festival via the bet365 Sports Live Streaming platform* meaning you can even cheer on your predictions live from wherever you may be.

Featured Races from 6 Horses Challenge

The bet365 6 Horses Challenge will take place across the first 6 races each day at the festival, meaning some of the biggest races of the week including the prestigious Gold Cup will be included for players to make their predictions. Here are some of the featured races that will take part in the challenge.

Supreme Novices’ Hurdle – Tuesday 13:30

The Supreme Novices’ Hurdle doesn’t just kick off our 6 Horses Challenge it kickstarts the Festival as a whole, and it comes in as a tricky one to predict leaving the door wide open for players of the challenge with 5 horses coming in at 7/1 or shorter in Antepost odds.

Champion Hurdle – Tuesday 15:30

After last years defending champion Constitution Hill was ruled out of this years festival by Nicky Henderson, the Champion Hurdle running has been blown wide open, presenting an opportunity for others to make a name for themselves in his absence. Leaving it a hard race for our players to predict for the 6 Horses Challenge

Champion Chase – Wednesday 15:30

This year’s champion chase features a strong odds on favourite in El Fabiolo but has Jonbon right behind on short odds in Antepost, which can set up players well for the rest of their day selections by locking in one of the favourites for the challenge.

Cheltenham Gold Cup – Friday 15:30

It’s the one everyone’s been waiting for, the inclusion of the Gold Cup in the 6 Horses challenge allows bet365 players to get involved in the highly anticipated event, will we see Galopin Des Champs retain the famous title or will we see a new horse in the winners’ enclosure taking home the spoils?

The Silicon Tipster – bet365 Supercomputer predicts Cheltenham 2024 winners

What is the Supercomputer and how does it work?

bet365 have activated their horse racing supercomputer to crunch the data and determine which horse has the best chance of winning the 2024 Gold Cup, alongside all of the other races at the festival.

We collected comprehensive data via Irishracing.com on the past winners and contenders of the Cheltenham Gold Cup since 1990. The next step was to determine the importance of the horses’ characteristics, in terms of what is advantageous for the race in question. This was done by consulting domain experts, and the characteristics were further classified as ‘numerical’ and ‘categorical’ features.

Using the algorithm mentioned above, we extracted the characteristics of all winning horses at Cheltenham Festival, to determine the characteristics of a ‘typical winning horse’ at the race. Once they were extracted, we used the median values as a representation of the characteristics of a typical winner at each race.

We extracted the relevant data for all horses competing at the 2024 Cheltenham Festival and then assigned similarity scores. The closer the similarity score to 1, the higher the winning probability of the particular horse.

Gold Cup predicted winner…

The supercomputer’s simulations, interestingly, favour Fastorslow who has a similarity score of 0.9854. The second favourite is Irish horse Shishkin and closely following it is Gerri Colombe from France. Defending champions Galopin des Champs is down as the tenth favourite, as per the supercomputer, which while a surprising prediction, shows that it’s not just statistics that make a winner.

The Methodology

● Data on past winners was collected via Irishracing.com and then analysed to determine the characteristics of a typical winning horse

● Data is from 1990 to 2023

● That data for the characteristics of a typical winning horse was then compared to the characteristics of the provisional field competing in 2024

● We assigned similarity scores to the field competing in 2024 - the higher the similarity score, the higher the chance of winning

● In case of missing data, median values from historical data were used for representation
