Hollywood superstar Nicolas Cage caused a stir when he made an impromptu stop at a local chippy in Somerset - and his strange order definitely raised some eyebrows.

The National Treasure star has owned a rustic cottage in the small village of Baltonsborough, Somerset since 2006, and some lucky locals say they've spotted him in the area. Although a busy Hollywood actor, Cage tries to get back to his little "home" as much as he can.

"I have a modest little cottage in Somerset I have been dreaming to get back to," he shared with Absolute Radio during the Covid pandemic. "With everything we have been contending with it has been so difficult. I am looking forward to getting back to your side of the world. Such nice people in Somerset," he added.

One of the things Cage clearly loves about the UK is British cuisine - admitting he's a big fan of Cornish pasties, which he previously said are "so delicious and they were the perfect thing to put in your lunch", in an interview with Absolute Radio. But it seems Cage is also partial to fish and chips - although his order might surprise you. Many years ago the Face-Off actor made a visit to a local chippie in Glastonbury - and the head friar has never forgotten what he ordered.

Speaking to the Mirror recently, George Morey, Head Fryer at award-winning chip shop Knights Fish Restaurant in Glastonbury, Somerset, recalled the Wild at Heart actor's visit.

George explained: "Many years ago Nicolas Cage came in and my sister served him and had a photo taken with him. I think he ordered about six pickled eggs and six pickled onions and a few gherkins as well so he’s a big fan of his pickles obviously."

Cage is clearly a fan of the British delicacy, as in 2010 he was also spotted picking up fish suppers for his family from Whitstones fish and chip shop in Shepton Mallet, after turning on the Christmas lights in Bath. At the time, owner Mark Swain said: "He came in as we were closing, but we decided not to turn him away."

The actor once shared he feels "more at home" in the UK, adding in an interview with Somerset Life: "I am a self-confessed Anglophile. I love everything about England; the history, the people, the countryside, the culture - you name it, I love it.

"I love seeing places like Buckingham Palace and all those other fantastic buildings which are steeped in history and culture. I love the whole concept of the Royal Family."

Cage also left local pubgoers open-mouthed in 2020 when he wandered into The Tramways club in Wells on New Year's Eve. According to shocked revellers on Reddit, the Oscar-winner had bought a round of drinks for everyone. They wrote: "Incidentally, he was a total legend, cool dude and is now a member."
