Jamie Carragher doesn't believe Liverpool are a better team than Manchester City but is adamant that Anfield will provide the Reds with a big advantage in the Premier League clash.

The title challengers face-off on Sunday afternoon with just one point separating them. A victory would see either side overtake Arsenal for top spot in the table.

City have only won once at Anfield in the Premier League under Pep Guardiola. That lone victory came in 2021 when supporters were not present due to restrictions in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Carragher believes that the Liverpool faithful can once again create a special environment to turn the tide in Liverpool's favour. That it could be the last meeting between Jurgen Klopp and Guardiola only adds to the atmosphhere.

He said: "I don’t actually think Liverpool are a better team than Manchester City, I don’t think they have better players individually. But for me, it’s the atmosphere that can make the difference - it’s Anfield, playing at home, the feeling around the city, the fact that Klopp might never face Pep Guardiola here again in the Premier League. It’s all of those little things that can give Liverpool the edge today."

Liverpool boss Klopp is not naive to the impact the supporters can have on his side. The German coach, speaking ahead of the clash with City, highlighted the moments where they have already made a difference this season.

Klopp believes they will be up to the task once again. "I have spoken so many times this season already about the difference that our supporters can and do make," he said.

Jamie Carragher in agreement with Klopp on Liverpool's advantage over Man CityJurgen Klopp will leave Liverpool this summer after almost nine years as manager at Anfield.

"I am not sure that it is necessary for me to say this today because I know our fans well enough to realise that they sense moments better than anyone. They sensed moments at Nottingham Forest last weekend, against Luton in our last home league game and in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley and each time they helped us to get us over the line.

“It does not take too much imagination to think that there will be moments when this is needed again today so the more that you can be with us the better. Anfield at its noisy, passionate best is one of the best things I have ever experienced in football. It would not be too bad if it could be like this again today.”

Carragher believes if Liverpool can convert their advantage into three points, it could be enough to spark lifting the Premier League trophy at the end of the season. With tougher fixtures remaining, the former Red believes the task could become too much for City.

He added: "I think if Liverpool are going to win the league, they’ll need to look back at this game and see that they got three points. It’s not over if you draw or if you lose but City have got a much tougher schedule over the next few weeks and if they drop points here, I don’t know if they’ll be able to make up the difference."
