A CEO who died in mysterious circumstances after her car was pulled from a made panicked calls to her friends moments before her Tesla sank, according to reports.

The body of Foremost Group CEO Angela Chao, the sister-in-law of the Minority Leader of the United States Senate Mitch McConnell, was pulled from a car in the lake on February 11. It is now believed the car was accidentally reversed into a pond on a private ranch in Johnson City, about 40 miles from Austin. Shortly after the discovery, police said they were investigating the death as a criminal matter.

"This incident was not a typical accident," the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a letter to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. "Although the preliminary investigation indicated this was an unfortunate accident, the Sheriff’s Office is still investigating this accident as a criminal matter until they have sufficient evidence to rule out criminal activity," the letter said.

It has now been detailed that the car was accidentally backed into the lake. have now reported more details of the tragedy which happened on what was supposed to be a celebratory weekend with friends.

A report into the circumstances leading up to the death says that Chao and several of her friends from Harvard Business School spent the weekend on a 900-acre private property in Texas’ Hill Country. It reported that after eating dinner together and celebrating the Chinese New Year on Friday night, Chao left the guesthouse around 11:30 p.m. to head back to the main house, where her son was sleeping.

The CEO decided to take her Model X SUV for the short drive rather than walk but it has been reported that within minutes, she called one of her friends in a panic. It is believed that while making a turn she put the car in reverse instead of drive and while the car was going backwards it fell into a pond.

Her friends rushed to her aid with one jumping into the pond while 911 was called. Blanco County emergency units finally arrived at 12:28 a.m. — a full 24 minutes after they received the call, according to an incident report obtained by The Wall Street Journal. One responder described the Tesla as completely submerged. Sheriff’s deputies even stood on top of it during the rescue efforts, trying to bust open a window.

According to the incident report, a dive team was needed but none were available. The car was reportedly much farther into the lake than expected. A two-man rescue crew eventually pulled Chao from the car around 12:56 a.m., police said. Emergency services attempted to resuscitate her for 43 minutes for 43 minutes but were unsuccessful, police said.

Paying tribute Chao's father, James S.C. Chao said his daughter was "thoughtful, kind and devoted... a much-loved charismatic and visionary leader."

His statement said: "It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved youngest daughter, Angela Chao. Angela is a brilliant woman, a charismatic and visionary leader and much-loved by all her sisters, our entire family and friends. As a daughter, sister, mother, aunt, wife and friend, she was unfailingly filial, thoughtful, kind and devoted."
