Sir Rod Stewart was left craning his neck as he looked up at his towering teenage son.

The 79-year-old rock legend is a proud father-of-eight - and shares his two youngest with third wife, Lady Penny Lancaster, 52. Together the couple have a 13-year-old son named Aiden and an 18-year-old son named Alastair. On Friday night, Alastair joined his parents for a night out in London.

The trio - along with other friends - went to the exclusive members club Annabel's in the capital and they all had their glad rags on while, yes, Penny also carried a handbag. Music icon Sir Rod - who reached the top of the charts this month alongside Jools Holland with their album Swing Fever - looked sharp in a pair of black and white striped trousers, a well-tailored white jacket, a white shirt, and black and white tie.

However, he may have wanted to swap his Dolce & Gabbana Millenials metallic Derby Shoes for a pair of platform boots in order to give his neck a rest as son, Alastair towered over him, leaving the singer straining to look up. Penny looked elegant in a striking blue and silver polka dot dress and carried a designer handbag. While Alastair also dressed up for the night wearing a blue shirt, dark coat, and dark trousers.

The family looked like they were in high spirits as they enjoyed their night out - with the MailOnline publishing a string of snaps of them together. Sir Rod marked Alistair’s birthday when he turned 18 last November. He posed alongside his son on his milestone year and wrote on Instagram at the time: "Celtic brothers, @Alastairstewart.” The pair were posed with beaming smiles and the singer added a sticker saying 'Happy birthday 18’.

Now that Alistair is of drinking age in the UK, he has been snapped a couple of times out and about with his parents. While chart topper Sir Rod has had even more reason to be in a celebratory mood this month.

Sir Rod was thrilled last week when his duet album with 66-year-old Jools topped the charts with their album of big band tracks. Discussing their chart success, Rod told the Official Charts Company: “Are we happy about this, Jools? Totally unexpected!” Jools added: “I’m so happy, this has never happened to me before. I’m absolutely delighted, thank you so much!”

Sir Rod has opened up about his approach to parenting - having welcomed eight kids over the years. He previously told Haute Living: "I don’t think I’m as strict with my kids as my mom and dad - especially my dad - were... I’m very lenient with them. None have gotten into any serious trouble. A couple dabbled with drugs, but that’s all done now."
