Man driving Audi wrong way down M62 killed after smashing into HGV
A man driving an Audi the wrong way down the M62 has been killed after smashing into a HGV near Leeds.
The M62 motorway has been shut since the early hours of Saturday (March 9) morning following the incident. Emergency services, including West Yorkshire Police, ambulance and fire, rushed to the scene, which happened on the eastbound carriageway close to Junction 29 (Lofthouse), at around 3.30am.
A white Audi A3, travelling the wrong way down the motorway, smashed with a Renault HGV. The driver of the Audi, a male who has not been identified at this time, was confirmed dead at the scene. The M62 is expected to remain shut for 'several hours', National Highways have reported as enquiries are ongoing.
Officers from the Major Collision Enquiry Team are appealing for witnesses. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who may have video footage is asked to contact West Yorkshire Police by calling 101 or online quoting reference 231 of 9/3.
