Winning an Oscar is one of the highest achievements in the movie industry and for most of us, it will only ever be a daydream to get one of our own.

But for a lot of iconic actors, winning the coveted gong is second nature. Stars including Meryl Streep, Renée Zellweger, Maggie Smith and Robert De Niro have won multiple Oscars in their decades-long careers, leading many fans to wonder what they actually do with their awards.

For Gwyneth Paltrow, the answer is simple - use it as a doorstop. Other actors, including Kate Winslet and Emma Thompson, keep their gongs in their bathroom. Here, we've taken a look at some of the strangest things celebrities have done with their Oscar awards.

Russell's Oscar award has found a home in the actor's chicken coop on his Australian ranch. It's been reported that he keeps it there because he believes the gong will help his hens lay larger eggs.

Gwyneth Paltrow claimed she had the "perfect" use for her Academy Award as she gave fans a glimpse into her Hamptons home. The actress won the award for her performance in the film Shakespeare in Love, in which she starred alongside Joseph Fiennes.

As Gwyneth invited Vogue magazine for a tour of her home, her Oscar made a surprise appearance as she walked through a gate in her garden. It had been placed on the ground and was seen propping up a door.

"What a beautiful Academy Award," the interviewer said as the camera panned to the ground. Gwyneth responded: "My doorstop! It works perfectly."

Kate Winslet finally won an Oscar for Best Actress in 2009 after receiving six nominations. She decided to keep her award in her bathroom and shared the adorable reason why in an interview with WSJ Magazine.

"The whole point is for everybody to pick it up and go, 'I'd like to thank my son and my dad'—and you can always tell when someone has, because they’re in there a little bit longer after they flushed. They’ll come out looking slightly pink-cheeked. It's hysterical," she said.

In the interview, the actress also admitted she doesn't consider herself to be a "movie star". She said she's "always been so uncomfortable" with the term and revealed she doesn't "live like one".

At the age of 11, Anna Paquin won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the romantic comedy The Piano. It made her the second-youngest winner in Oscar history.

After getting the gong at such a young age, it seems Anna couldn't decide where to keep it. The Oscar often changes location from her sock drawer to on the floor next to her boots.

It's certainly different to what her co-star Holly Hunter did with her Oscar. The actress, who also won the gong for The Piano, keeps her award at the New York offices of Joel and Ethan Coen. It sits next to the statue Frances McDormand won for her role in the Coens' 1996 film Fargo.

Timothy Hutton became the youngest person ever to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the 1980 film Ordinary People. Years after winning the award, he revealed the perfect use for his gong.

In 2010, he revealed that his sister wanted to prank party guests by putting his Oscar in the fridge next the the refreshments. Timothy told People magazine: "She thought that would be kind of funny to put the Oscar in the refrigerator when people would go grab a beer or something." He then admitted the Oscar is "still there".

Jared Leto is no stranger to making headlines for his often bizarre behaviour so it's no surprise he found an odd home for his Oscar award. The actor revealed he keeps his Oscar, who he won for Dallas Buyer's Club, in his kitchen.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, he said the award is being guarded by some very important items. "The Oscar is sitting in my kitchen, guarded by some vegan butter and a bag of popcorn!

"You know, they kind of end up in the kitchen because that's the first place that I go when I get home. You put your keys down and you take off your jacket… and you put your Oscar in the kitchen," he revealed.
