Capcom has released the Dragon's Dogma 2 Character Creator & Storage app, which allows you to create your Arisen and your number one Pawn ahead of the game launching.

We may have all gotten ahead of ourselves when news that a Dragon's Dogma 2 demo could be on the cards broke, but the Capcom Highlights showcase last night put an end to that – although it turns out the reality of what it was offering was actually better. Yes there is a free Dragon's Dogma 2 client like the demo rumours stated, but instead of being a typical demo, we got the Dragon's Dogma 2 Character Creator & Storage app instead.

This app is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam), and will allow you to access the Dragon's Dogma 2 character creator suite to make your version of the Arisen, as well as create your Pawn (which for those unaware, is an NPC companion that joins you on your adventure). These characters will be able to transfer over to the full game when it launches later this month on Friday, March 22.

This time around players are able to make their human characters like last time, but new to Dragon's Dogma 2 character creator is the Beastren – humanoid Lion creatures. So whether you want to recreate yourself, or live our your fantasies as a Thundercat, you'll be able to lock it in early.

Masterworks all

While I was initially a bit disappointed that we didn't get a Dragon's Dogma 2 demo at the end of the Capcom Highlights showcase, this is probably the best move Capcom could make. As we've seen with games like Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, it's quite hard to give a vertical slice of a giant RPG like this that can accurately represent the experience you'll have when Friday, March 22 comes around.

As someone who spends a disgusting amount of time in character creators (thanks Baldur's Gate 3!), I'm pretty happy that Capcom dropped the Dragon's Dogma 2 character creator app instead of a demo; because now I can do all of that painstakingly long tweaking without the inner voice telling me to start the damn game already.

Plus, it looks like Dragon's Dogma 2's character creator is going to be extremely elaborate. I don't think I've ever seen a character creator that has you tweak the angle your elbows and knees are at or your posture is in as you walk. I can't wait to dig in and drop about three hours building my Arisen and Pawn, so I can jump straight in when the game arrives.
