The victim was said to be heard pleading with Johnson before two shots rang out at the apartment near Odgen Avenue and West 162nd Street at around 8.00pm, neighbours told police. “Please don’t! I have a family,” the man was allegedly heard saying as he pleaded for his life.

CCTV footage appears to show Johnson stepping out of the lift with a mop and a bag full of cleaning supplies. Later, Johnson was seen lugging a blue bin into the apartment at 2.00am – and never brought it out with him, the building’s superintendent said.

The suspect allegedly left the scene in the victim’s blue Audi, before returning in disguise wearing a blonde wig. Cops made an initial wellness check on the apartment, but “didn’t find anything,” the superintendent said.

Johnson allegedly tried to pull the building superintendent away for a chat, before police returned for questioning. "If I’d gone, you never know what he was going to do,” the man said. “He was gonna frame me or shoot me or offer me something to get rid of the cameras or something.”

In an interview on Joe Rogan's podcast, Johnson claimed he used to be a member of the Bloods gang. "I was in a gang, I was top of the food chain. I had my own nation under me, I wasn't just like a random gang member," he said.

But he told host Josh Dubin that he was sentenced to a maximum of 50 years after a string of armed robberies and a stint in solitary confinement is what sparked him to “turn his life around."

"I've been doing bad for so long I'm going to try to do something good, if all else fails I can go back to doing something bad," he said on the podcast. The convicted felon said he got his General Educational Development - equivalent of a high school diploma - while locked up in prison.
