Maya Jama is reminding her fans how far she has come by sharing a throwback snap from her youth.

The 29-year-old television presenter has enjoyed a phenomenal career so far - having cemented her place in the spotlight in recent years after becoming the host of Love Island in 2023 and wowed audiences this month as a host of the 2024 BRIT Awards. And while Maya’s career might look like an overnight success, she has been grafting for years before enjoying her current A-List success.

Taking to social media on Friday, Maya ended the week in a reflective mood - while also highlighting how luxurious her life is. Taking to Instagram Stories, the star shared a throwback snap of herself from her pre-fame years showing her as a child and smiling for the camera.

The star originally posted the image back in September 2022 along with a simple caption stating: “Started..” and the photo showed her wearing door trousers, a pink top and with her hair in bunches. Flash forward to her present-day life, and the star is enjoying all the perks of fame.

She uploaded a snap of herself wearing a face mask while giving herself a bit of pampering. She then shared a snap of herself sitting in a luxury compartment of an aeroplane while wearing a comfy hooded top and a cap and with her hair in pigtails. She followed this with a snap of herself in a car, still wearing her cap.

She then re-posted an image of her recent Vogue cover shoot - which saw her posing alongside a huge host of other major celebrities including chat show icon Oprah Winfrey, supermodel Kate Moss, and legendary actress Jane Fonda. She also shared a photo of a high fashion bag she was carrying with her - with the Louis Vuitton print and logo clear to see in her snap.

Maya - whose TV career began back in 2014 - has previously candidly shared that personal tragedy drove her to succeed. Her boyfriend Rico Gordon was murdered when she was 16 after he was caught in the crossfire of a gunfight between two rival gangsters in Bristol where she was born and raised. Back in 2018, she explained that she appeared on Crimewatch to help track down the killers.

She said at the time: “That's the worst thing that's ever happened to me. It was unreal - the sort of thing that happens in films. That experience gave me so much motivation to push with my career. At the time, work was the only thing that made me happy, so I just kept on going with it. Bad things happen, but you've got to try to make good things out of that tough situation. That's what it taught me."

While hosting the 2024 BRIT Awards, Maya admitted she almost broke down in tears while congratulating six-time winner Raye. She said on camera: "Honestly, before when they went on camera I had all the tears and I said "Raye, listen. I know you're my mate, but I can't cry on camera. It's not my moment. It's yours!'"
