There are many ways to entertain your child - but one dad came under fire for playing knock-a-door run with his daughter.

We all remember the days as a child playing outside with friends, riding around on bikes, sitting in the park and getting up to mischief. But only the bravest would dare to play knock a door run.

The game, which has been fiercely debated over what people call it, is where you simply knock on the door of a house and run away and hide when the homeowner comes to answer it, but many people are baffled as to why a man took his daughter out to play it.

It's not the most conventional dad and daughter time but dad Jamie Carter said he's "not sorry" for taking his six-year-old daughter Harper out knocking on the doors and running away in Dewsbury, Yorkshire. He said the idea came when he returned home from work early and saw his daughter "glued to a screen".

Jamie, who works in the military said: "After finally getting her away from her tablet, I started talking to her about what I used to do when I was her age, rather than sit on phones and tablets as children do these days. I told her about knocking on a door and asked her if she wanted to do it with me and she agreed. I got our coats and shoes on and headed out around the local area, and decided to film the whole thing too," reported Yorkshire Live.

The 37-year-old posted the video online and made it clear he had no regrets to his neighbours. He wrote: "If you live in Shawcross I make no apologies about taking my six-year-old on her first knock-a-door run. Hedge hopping tomorrow," and you can hear his daughter laughing hysterically as her dad knocked on the door as they both ran away.

Jamie added: "I just wanted to show everyone that kids can still have fun without having their faces stuck in technology. As you can see in the video she loved it as much as I did. It was well worth the minor inconvenience of someone having to open their door and no one being there. It was just good fun really.

"Most people around my age have probably all done it at some point - if it happened to me for instance then I'd just laugh to myself because I know I did that myself as a child as well," and told people who can't see that need to "lighten up".

Depending on where you live in the UK, the game may have a different name. Some variations include knock knock ginger, Chappy in Scotland, Bobby Knocking in Wales and Rat a Tat Ginger in Coventry.
