Kylie Minogue and Madonna have taken to the stage together for the first time in their careers to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The two pop stars took to the stage at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, near Los Angeles, California to sing Minogue’s hit song Can’t Get You Out Of My Head on Thursday evening as part of Madonna’s Celebration tour. Clad in cowboy boots and a studded leather jacket, “Queen of Pop” Madonna performed dance movies beside the “Princess of Pop” Kylie, who was wearing leather-style pattern trousers and a black verst top.

As fans went wild, the pair also sang Gloria Gaynor’s Grammy-wining emotional track I Will Survive, about the end of a bad relationship which is regarded as an LGBT+ anthem.

Introducing her to the stage, Madonna, 65, called Kylie, 55, a “very special guest” before giving a warm embrace to the Australian pop star.

“Now, this is what we call survival,” she said. “It’s a privilege for me to be up here singing with you… God bless you, never give up.” Kylie told the audiences she felt “amazing” and said the duet had not happened before as they both like to “take our time”.

Writing on X, formerly Twitter, Kylie said: “Madonna It’s been a long time coming!!! Loved being with you!!!! Celebration Tour and it is now International Women’s Day …. Thank you and Love Love Love.” She also shared a video of her dancing around through the crowd while wearing a T-shirt with “Madonna” written on the front.

The pop stars have both previously praised each other's work in the past despite being seen as rivals.

Boasting nine number one albums, Kylie is the female solo artist with the third most UK chart-topping records following US singers Madonna and Taylor Swift. She was honoured with a Brits global icon award at last week's ceremony and closed the show with a medley of her greatest hits. Clad in a red latex-style dress, echoing the music video for Padam Padam, she performed that dance-pop hit before going into a black and white outfit for Can’t Get You Out Of My Head and finishing in an all-white ensemble for Love At First Sight.

While Madonna is currently performing the North American leg of her Celebration tour, featuring a selection of hits from her decades spanning career.

The tour was rescheduled last year due to the US singer’s stay in intensive care over a “serious bacterial infection” and kicked off in London in October at The O2.

The tour has not been without it's complications. In Janauary it was reported that some Fans filed a lawsuit alleging she started her gig in New York City more than two hours late. The megastar played concerts at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn for the North American leg of her Celebration tour in December which Michael Fellows and Jonathan Hadden attended.

Documents to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York say that Madonna “demonstrated flippant difficulty in ensuring a timely or complete performance” and the start time of 8.30pm was “optimistic speculation”. They say the concert began on December 13 2023, between 10.45pm and 11pm, and finished after 1am New York time.

Mr Fellows and Mr Hadden, who are represented by lawyers Richard Klass and Marcus Corwin, said that due to the event taking place on a Wednesday, there were issues getting home for concertgoers. The documents say “many ticketholders who attended concerts on a weeknight had to get up early to go to work and/or take care of their family responsibilities the next day” and there was limited access to public transportation or ride-sharing apps.

The Barclays Centre and Live Nation were also named in the court filing. “Defendants failed to provide any notice to the ticketholders that the concerts would start much later than the start time printed on the ticket and as advertised, which resulted in the ticketholders waiting for hours,” the documents state.

The filing also claims “Madonna has a long history of arriving and starting her concerts late, sometimes several hours later” while citing her 2015 to 2016 Rebel Heart tour and her 2019 to 2020 Madame X tour.

They also say other timings were delayed at the Barclays Centre and other stops as part of the Celebration tour.

Mr Fellows, who paid 155.90 US dollars (£123) for his ticket, and Mr Hadden, who bought two tickets for 292.50 US dollars (£230), have asked for a jury trial in the case. Madonna told a Las Vegas audience in 2019 that “a queen is never late” in a video she shared following a lawsuit claiming lateness.

The previous case was dismissed.
