Fortnite is going down today ahead of the launch of Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2, Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming downtime.

Update: The Fortnite Myths and Mortals update is here but you won't be able to play for a while yet as Fortnite downtime has been extended again. Fortnite is still down but you can preload update v29.00 at 9pm EST / 6pm PST and 2am GMT in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Original story: Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 – titled Myths & Mortals – is set to arrive later today. The season is themed around Greek Mythology and will include skins based on the likes of Zeus, Aphrodite, and, my personal favourite, Poseidon, who is inexplicably a blue sludge monster of all things. The season is going to kick off later today, but of course, it's a Fortnite update so we'll be dealing with some downtime first.

Here's when we can expect the game to go down, how long it's likely to be gone for, the Chapter 5 Season 2 start time, and what we can expect when it goes live again later on.

Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 downtime

The Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 Downtime is going to kick off on Friday, March 8 at 6am GMT / 2am ET and on Thursday, March 7 at 11pm PT. That is, according to the Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 Battle Pass page in-game. Typically matchmaking is shut off 30 minutes before the downtime, so you'll need to jump into a match by Friday, March 8 at 5:30 am GMT / 1:30 am EDT and on Thursday, March 7 at 10:30pm PDT if you want one last bash at Chapter 5 Season 1.

Downtime typically lasts about four to six hours, so you should be able to play the game once again sometime between 10am GMT / 6am ET / 3am PT or 12pm GMT / 8am ET / 5am PT on Friday, March 8, which will bring Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 to the masses and you can roleplay as some Greek gods.

Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 early patch notes

While we won't have the full extent of the Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 patch notes until Epic Games releases them once the season is live again. However, thanks to the official Fortnite Trello Board, we know about a few changes set to arrive in today's update. The changes are as follows:

  • The Splinter Assignment: The Ooze War TMNT event quests punchcard appears twice. This is a visual issue, the quests are not credited twice.

  • We’re aware that players may be unable to see their Rank progress when returning to the lobby, and the team is investigating a fix for a future game update.

  • Ranked Cosmetics may not be correctly displaying the player's highest Rank.

  • We're aware that the Shuffle Loadout option is currently unavailable in the new Locker UI for players to switch up their look every match. We're working on a fix for this and will update you when it's expected to return.

However, since This is the start of a brand new season, there's bound to be far more changes than just that. There will likely be new POIs in the map and some new weapons and mythic items based on Greek mythology.
