Gwyneth Paltrow has given her blessing to Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson

Gwyneth Paltrow has "given her blessing" after ex-husband Chris Martin got engaged to girlfriend Dakota Johnson.

The Hollywood star is reportedly happy for the couple as they move on to the next stage of their relationship. The Coldplay star proposed to Dakota after six years together. A source previously told The Mirror : "The couple got engaged a while ago and have kept the news private. But now they are being open about it with their circles."

The insider also explained that the couple are in no rush to tie the knot and are taking things as they come. They continued: "They have been besotted with each other from day one so taking this next step was inevitable. They are in no rush to plan the wedding but are just enjoying making their commitment official."

Gwyneth and Dakota made headlines last year when Gwyneth posted a snap of them holding hands, showing off a close friendship. Speaking to Bustle magazine about the reaction, Dakota said: "I'm glad there was that positive reaction.

'I'm spending £20k on a new bathroom - but won't help my brother out with cash'

"I grew up in a family that was so big, and I just believe in the saying 'Blood is thicker than water'. The actual saying is 'The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb' which means the people you choose are more solid than the connections to the people you're actually born to."

Meanwhile, Gwyneth has been speaking about some of her "biggest learnings" while speaking at Wednesday's Visionary Women's International Women's Day Summit at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, where she gushed about her "amazing" step-kids. After asking if their were any step-mums in the audience, she said: "I t's a b***h, right, guys? No, I actually, I really like to talk about this because it's one of my biggest learnings as a human being.

"And my area of growth personally came from the initial difficult relationship I had with my step kids and now they're like my kids." She admitted to finding it "really rough" when she first tried to bond with her step-children. Speaking about how she managed to overcome barriers with her step-kids, Gwyneth said: "I just learned to try to just keep shining like the sun and never keeping score."

The 51-year-old is also mum to daughter Apple and son Moses who she shares with Chris. Gwyneth and Chris met in October 2002 and were married a year later. They separated after 10 years of marriage, with Gwyneth referring to the split as "conscious uncoupling".
