Carole Malone puzzled fans with her comments on King Charles' cancer treatment.

The journalist joined Jeremy Vine on Channel 5 for a discussion on the Royal Family as the host asked: "Should Kensington Palace reveal more about Kate [Middleton]'s health?" The Princess of Wales hasn't been seen on official duties since December and was admitted to a private hospital for a planned operation in January.

Discussion quickly turned to Charles, who Buckingham Palace announced has been diagnosed with cancer which was discovered during treatment for an enlarged prostate. The type of cancer has not been revealed but it was confirmed it is not prostate cancer.

Praising the King, Carole said: "What Charles did was a great thing, with the prostate thing," as Jeremy interjected: "Hang on, he didn't tell us what cancer he has."

"Well he doesn't have cancer but he was having a prostate procedure," she said before adding to Jeremy: "I don't know if it is cancer."

Channel 5 viewers were left confused by Carole's comments as she appeared to deny Charles' cancer diagnosis. However, she later clarified that she, in fact, knew the type of cancer the King had been diagnosed with and therefore was had been referring to Charles' prostate treatment not being cancer related.

Interjecting, podcast host and Jeremy Vine guest Michael Waker said: "No, he had an enlarged prostate and cancer." Jeremy continued: "He had a prostate test, the prostate was fine but he was diagnosed with cancer of another part."

"I can't say what it is but I know," Carole claimed before moving on with the discussion. On February 5, Buckingham Palace released a statement announcing the monarch's cancer diagnosis.

The statement read: "During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer. His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.

"Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual. The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure.

"He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible. His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."

Days later the monarch issued his first statement since being diagnosed with cancer. In a message, written from Sandringham in Norfolk, King Charles said: "I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days.

"As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement." He continued: "It is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organisations which support cancer patients and their families across the UK and wider world."

Sharing his gratitude to the medical professionals and cancer charities, he added: "My lifelong admiration for their tireless care and dedication is all the greater as a result of my own personal experience."
