A pint of racegoers’ favourite tipple will be for sale at a cut price next week to celebrate the 100th Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Last year premium bookmaker Fitzdares launched the world’s most expensive pint of Guinness, a blend of sparkling wine and Guinness priced at £20, in response to rising prices at the meeting.

This year the Jockey Club has held the price of a pint of the black stuff, of which 220,000 pints are annually consumed at the Festival, at £7.50.

But Fitzdares has cheekily undercut the racecourse by offering it’s ‘Best Price Guaranteed pint’, or BPG Pint.

Priced at just £3.30, to mirror the 3.30pm off time of the Gold Cup, it will be available to any customer visiting one of two Fitzdares Club locations in Mayfair, London, and on the site of trainer Ben Pauling’s stable in Naunton, Gloucestershire, during the four days of the fixture.

Will Woodhams, Fitzdares CEO, said: “With the price of Guinness always a talking point at Cheltenham, this year we’re not only going best price on many of our races, but best price with our Guinness too.

“Twelve months ago, we launched the world’s most expensive Guinness for £20 in jovial response to the rising cost of a pint of the black stuff, but we’ve decided now is the time to offer one of the cheapest pints in the country. They will be available in two of the finest locations for racing fans to watch the Festival, so get them while you can!

“The betting term BPG has taken on a new meaning. Not only are Fitzdares offering Best Price Guaranteed on all races throughout the Cheltenham Festival, we are also offering the Best Priced Guinness you can get.”

At Cheltenham there will be 900 yards of temporary bar counters to meet demand from thirsty racegoers who also consume 100,000 pints of lager.

Cheltenham’s owners the Jockey Club have held prices of Guinness, and other beers, at the same level for the last 18 months.

A spokesperson for Cheltenham Racecourse explained that “despite being exposed to ongoing and significant increases to the costs of goods and services”, the decision had been taken to keep the price of a pint the same as it has been since October 2022.
