Laurie's stint as Jane saw her tackle many storylines during her time in Walford. Jane, who was married to Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) enjoyed an affair with Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp) and was accidentally shot by Ian's stepson Steven Beale (Aaron Sidwell).

Jane was last seen in Albert Square in 2017 when Max Branning (Jake Wood) ordered her to leave for good. Max threatened to harm Jane's family if she didn't leave Walford, leading to the beloved character leaving a desperate message explaining her departure to Ian.

When Ian failed to pick up his phone, Jane left a message and said: "Oh god, Ian I'm sorry. I'm so sorry I had to leave like that, I had to fake it. This is going to sound crazy but we were being watched. I don't exactly get what's going on, but I don't know who we can trust.

"I'm so paranoid. Listen, I will ring you tonight. Don't speak to anyone until I've called you. I'll explain everything I know, I promise. But listen, I still love you. I do love you." Fans recently suspected Laurie, who played Jane for 13 years, could be heading back to Walford after spotting her in the background of Kellie Bright's TikTok post.

As the Linda Carter star gave fans an insight into the day at working filming the soap, some of her followers claimed they'd spotted Laurie in the background of the behind-the-scenes clip. One commented: "Was that Jane Beale?"' while another asked: "Was that Jane sitting on the couch."

Laurie and her former EastEnders co-star Adam reunited in 2022 as they played husband and wife once again in stage production Looking Good Dead. Opening up on their reunion at the time, Adam joked: "It's like putting on a comfortable pair of old slippers."
