Cincinnati Bengals' star quarterback, Joe Burrow, has given fans a much-needed update on the injury that ended his 2023 season. He's hoping to be back in action by May after a wrist injury ended his hopes of a push for Super Bowl LVIII.

Chatting with reporters on Monday, he revealed that he could be back on the field of play six months after his injury. He also plans to take part in full-contact sessions when he returns.

"I think the middle of May is when I am expecting to kind of be cleared for full contact and everything," Burrow said to ESPN. "Over the next month [to] month and a half, we'll kind of decide all those things."

Burrow also shared that he's now able to lift weights as normal during his recovery and that he'll stick to his usual training routine over the next two months, which means not throwing until OTAs - something he has done his entire career.

The Bengals' QB also completed a tough twelve-week programme as part of his rehab. Burrow admitted it was hard but necessary, and he's feeling positive about moving forward.

Before his injury, Burrow made 244 passes for 2,309 yards and 15 touchdowns. The team even managed to beat the Kansas City Chiefs twice when he was fit. With Burrow in the team, the Bengals have a 3-1 record against Kansas City, showing just how strong their offence is.

In 2023, Burrow signed a five-year deal worth $275 million (£203 million), making him the highest-paid player in NFL history. In February, the Bengals offered exclusive rights tenders to long snapper Cal Adomitis and backup QB Jake Browning for the 2024 season.

While Burrow was out, Browning led the team to four wins. He completed 70.4 percent of his passes and threw 12 touchdowns in seven games. Nine-year veteran quarterback A. J, however, was let go.

McCarron now has just two quarterbacks on the roster. The Bengals hold the No. 16 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and NFL analysts project the team to address needs at offensive tackle, defensive tackle, tight end, cornerback, and possibly receiver.

Mock drafts predict Cincinnati could draft Alabama offensive tackle JC Latham, especially since their current tackle, Jonah Williams, is set to test free agency.

Cincinnati has nine picks in the draft, with one in each of the seven rounds and two in the fifth and seventh rounds. The team is rumoured to be searching for a tight end and could be interested in Brock Bowers from Georgia if his draft stock drops.
