Francis Ngannou doesn't think Tyson Fury can call himself the best heavyweight in the world after their controversial fight.

Ex-UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou made his boxing debut against Fury last October and only lost by a single point in a heavily scrutinised decision. Fury had to pick himself up off the canvas in the third round and Ngannou is hoping a win against Anthony Joshua on Friday in Saudi Arabia can earn him a rematch against the heavyweight champion.

Fury is scheduled to fight Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed world titles in May and the winner of Joshua and Ngannou's fight is next in line for all the belts. Ngannou mocked his old rival Fury in a recent interview with DAZN Boxing by saying: He’s not the number one anymore.”

Presenter Ade Oladipo then asked him: “Who’s the number one?” Ngannou replied: “That’s a good question, but I have a win over him so in my book and in my ranking, I’m infront of him." Although the decision didn't go Ngannou's way against Fury, many fans and fighters scored the fight in his favour.

Ngannou vacated his UFC world title and left the promotion last January in the hopes of kickstarting his boxing career. Just two fights in and the 37-year-old has already ticked two names off his bucket list and he is still targeting a fight against Deontay Wilder despite the American losing his last fight.

“When you think about heavyweight boxing, in the last decade there hasn’t been a moment that Joshua hasn’t been in the top three. He’s probably around number two or three, something like that. That’s why in my boxing dream when I was in the UFC, there was three names I had in mind. Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder," Ngannou added.

“I still have those three names. This won’t end until I fight Wilder and the Tyson Fury rematch. Based on what happened the first time with the controversy, we need to sort that out but Wilder is still on my list." Ngannou and Wilder were linked to a mixed-rules fight but talks fizzled out after Wilder lost to Parker just days before Christmas.
