Lookfantastic's £60 Mother's Day box is the perfect gift for beauty-loving mums
As a first time mum to a 19-month-old, working full time with 2 dogs who also think they are toddlers and a husband who does too, ‘me time’ and pamper nights aren’t really something on the itinerary anymore.
Being treated to this year's however, was the nudge I needed to remember it's important for mums and carers to take a little break every now and again and recharge those batteries.
This vibrantly coloured box of treats worth over £177 contains for mums to enjoy. I am no beauty expert but even I knew that for some of the well known beauty brand names in here, and the size of the products (in most cases full sized) this was great value for money.
I started my pamper session with a lovely hot shower using the I have very thick, coarsely textured hair so was eager to see how this worked for me as it states it ‘helps boost moisture for dry and damaged hair’. The smell firstly was delightful! After applying my first shampoo step though, I was a bit underwhelmed with the lather so I opted for another shampoo and on second attempt it did not disappoint. I then added a generous amount of the conditioner.
With thick long hair like mine I feel you may go through this bottle size pretty quickly but it would be good for a weekend away or use at the gym. I found post-hair wash that my hair was a bit hard to brush, which made me think the conditioner wasn’t amazing. My assumption was due to the natural nature of the product that, maybe it wasn’t ‘strong’ enough to handle my mane. I was proven wrong. With one basic run through with the hair dryer and no blow dry tools it left my hair super soft, shiny and less fuzzy looking.
Kate Middleton swears by £19.99 rosehip oil that helps 'reduce wrinkles & scars'I am a for reference and although I will be sticking with that routine for now it's opened my eyes on maybe giving this brand another shot for this summer holidays, when humidity and dryness will be at peak!
Post shower I lathered myself with This brand is a firm favourite for me so spotting a full size product in the box was amazing! Even though the cream is thick I find it absorbs well, is easy to distribute and feels and smells luxurious. 10/10... Always!
Before bed I then decided to pair the and the I found the mask a bit too slippery, but once on and lying still it felt so lovely and cooling on the skin. I think it’s a shame it's not multi-use as they are quite pricey in comparison to other face masks out there. I maybe wouldn’t rush to purchase again and the fact you have to be lying down for it not to slide off your face wasn’t ideal.
The lip sleep mask on the other hand was a revelation. I have very dry lips and a bad habit of biting them if stressed. The fact that this goes on over night so you don't accidentally wipe off while eating/drinking was great. The product smelt nice, applied easily, didn’t feel sticky and stayed on all night. This is something I will look to invest in once this pot is finished!
I waited to test the and until I was leaving the house (which is rare these days!). During nursery drop off I gave them their first whirl and was pleasantly surprised by both. The lip and cheek pencil was co-incidentally the very shade of lip I go for (normally a ). I found it easy to go on and it didn’t dry out my lips - it also coloured but didn’t stain which I appreciate. I likely wont add this into my everyday routine but for special occasions I think having a matching lip and cheek might be nice.
The best compliments I can give for the Bobbi Brown mascara is the fact I could put it on running out the door - no clumps, great separation and when I rubbed my eyes later in the day with pure exhaustion of having a crazy toddler forgetting I was wearing it, it did not budge. 10/10 for me. I have also never tested a non-black mascara. Normally my go to is the ) and with dark brown hair and eyes this really suited me. I will be looking to invest in a full size one asap.
Sitting down at my desk I decided to give the fragrance focused items a try. I was a little confused by the as despite coming in a very floral box the scent to me was very masculine. My husband and I agreed we both liked it but that it was better suited for him so he was pleased with the ‘freebie’. What I will not be sharing with anyone is the . It smells like an expensive spa day and will live on my desk to help give me good vibes (and smells) while I work. It is quite pricey to buy individually so would be more a ‘treat yourself’ recommendation from me rather than a must have/daily item.
Finally are two items I wasn’t really able to properly test - the mini perfume and the hair leave in spray. I was actually sent the that is for face and eyes rather than just the Shiseido . I have quite sensitive combo skin and straight away after using only a small amount of the product I could feel my skin was not onboard. This is not to say it's not a good product but it's not for me. I am seeing great results after recently switching to so I will be sticking with that. As mentioned I have super thick masses of hair so I am not in any need for volume or thickness. looks and smells like a lovely product but is for ‘fine, thin, hair’.
I can say the product looks and smells like summer and would be lovely for someone with that hair type. I have been seeing great results personally using for my hair type.
As a gift for yourself or for another mum/carer giver in your life this box will be sure to deliver. My daughter has now also claimed the box as her own as a new drum/toy hiding device. But if the items in the box aren’t quite right for you we also recommend the . You can check our our .
