A former Big Brother star has been charged following a brawl outside a pub.

Hughie Maughan was arrested following an incident outside a premises in Blanchardstown, west Dublin, over the weekend. He has been charged in relation to a public order allegation in connection with the incident. The reality TV star is said to not be appearing in court until later this month.

The row was filmed and posted onto social media. It showed a topless male alleged to be Maughan engage in a verbal and physical dispute with another male. Gardai were filmed trying to keep the two men apart. An onlooker could then be heard shouting: "Hughie get off the road."

In a statement, Gardaí told the Mirror: "Gardaí arrested and charged three people following an investigation into a public order incident which occurred on Main Street, Blanchardstown, on Saturday 2nd March 2024. Three people, two males and a female (aged in their 20s), are due to appear before Blanchardstown District Court at a later date. Investigations are ongoing."

Hughie starred on Channel 5's Big Brother back in 2016. He famously shared he is gay while in the Big Brother house and was a runner up on the show, with Jason Burrill winning. When he left the house, Hughie was greeted by a big surprise. Host Emma Willis showed Hughie a picture of his in-house lover Ryan Ruckledge, with whom he'd shared a drunken romp with on TV, and revealed how he'd gotten a tattoo within a week of leaving the house.

Hughie took the news well, until he realised that the inking in question was actually his name with a heart next to it. Ryan tweeted: "The long awaited tattoo of Hughie @bbuk #bbuk #hugietowin," followed by a series of heart emojis. The sentiment seemed to catch Hughie off guard. He admitted to having a girl's name tattooed on him during a drunken night on holiday, but didn't confirm that his next tattoo would say 'Ryan'.

The reality star later went on to appear on Dancing with the Stars in the 2017 series. During his stint on the RTE show, Hughie became a viral sensation thanks to a makeup "mistake" after he wore Voice Of Ireland coach Jamelia’s makeup to try and fix his fake tan disaster. “This morning I seen a clip of a chat show in America and they spoke about my tan,” he said on RTE Radio One. "That’s just weird. It was a genuine mistake, if I had planned that probably nobody would speak about it.

“It was a genuine mistake, trying to make a bad situation better and it just got worse. I came from the Big Brother house. I’m not a professional athlete, I came from a trashy reality TV show and I’ll probably go into another trashy reality show after Dancing With The Stars.”

The Mirror has contacted Hughie's representative for comment.
