Sydney Sweeney took a bold swipe at he new film, Madame Web, which has performed disastrously at the box office, as she made her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live.
The 26-year-old Euphoria star started her monologue by joking that she has achieved her famous hourglass figure by using weight loss drug Ozempic, before poking fun at rumours that she had had an affair with her Anything But You co-star Glenn Powell while engaged to businessman Jonathan Davino.
Sydney gushed about her fiancé to the audience, saying that there was no chance that she could have had an affair.
She said: "But the craziest rumour is that I was having an affair with my co-star Glenn Powell. That's obviously not true. Me and my fiancé produced the movie together, and he was there the entire shoot."
The Hollywood star continued: "And I just want to let everyone know that he's the man of my dreams, and we're still together and stronger than ever. He even came here tonight to support me. Can we cut to him?"
Prince Harry 'almost hosted Saturday Night Live and bosses still keen on ideaWhen the camera cut to the audience, it rested upon Glen rather than Davino, with Sydney exclaiming: "That's not my fiancé! He's in my dressing room!" This came after Sydney had introduced herself to the audience, saying: "You might have seen me in Anyone But You or Euphoria. You definitely did not see me in Madame Web."
The superhero flick, also starring Dakota Johnson, was panned by critics and has flopped with audiences at the box office.
Moving on to her latest project, Sydney went on: "I do have a new film coming out called Immaculate. I play a nun, so it's perfect casting. But tonight, I'm excited for everyone to get to know the real me." Sydney said she is from Spokane, Washington and said her parents used to drive her to Los Angeles for auditions. She said: "That's a 19-hour drive. And I'm so grateful to them for believing in me. And I think the reason they did is because I presented them with a five-point plan to break into acting. I still have it."
With the plan appearing on the screen, Sydney said: "Check it out. It says, audition, get an agent, do commercials and short films, then get my SAG card." She then joked about her weight, saying: "Then a woman went viral on TikTok because she claimed she's my nutritionist. I'm in shape because I run, avoid sugar, and do Ozempic."
The jokes came after Glenn had admitted that he would like to work with Sydney again, when speaking a the 2024 SAG Awards in February. He told Variety: "When you find somebody that you really jive with, Sydney is so easy to work with and so fun. We're definitely trying to find the next thing. Please send us all the scripts you got. You know we're here for it. It's been really wonderful to read a lot. Sydney reads everything, by the way, and in record time."
The actor continued: "She's the fastest reader I think I've ever met. It takes me a little longer, but we're reading everything and just trying to see what makes sense, what we can turn into something that audiences are going to respond to."
