Liverpool get four-man injury boost for Forest trip but Salah still on sidelines

Liverpool have been handed an injury boost with news Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai are set to return for Saturday’s clash with Nottingham Forest.

While Wataru Endo and Andy Robertson will train on Friday and should also be fit for the trip to the City Ground. But Mo Salah won’t return for the Reds as he battles a hamstring problem. The Egyptian could be fit for the Reds’ crunch clash with Manchester City on March 10.

Kop boss Jurgen Klopp said: “I don't think Mo is too far off but he will not be on the pitch tomorrow and from there we have to go. Mo is a bit longer, maybe next week is possible, he is on the way back, definitely. Not for tomorrow."

Salah suffered a recurrence of a hamstring problem at the Africa Cup of Nations when he returned in the victory over Brentford last month. Nunez has been out since picking up a muscle problem against the Bees and Szoboszlai hasn’t played since suffering a recurrence of a hamstring injury against Chelsea at the end of January.

Endo picked up a knock in last week’s Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea while Robertson was ill for the midweek win over Southampton in the FA Cup. Luis Diaz and Alexis Mac Allister did not start against the Saints but both are fit to face Forest.

Klopp added: “Darwin and Dom trained yesterday with the team. We'll see how they react. Wataru and Robbo didn't but there's a plan they join today."

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alisson remain out with Conor Bradley and Caoimhin Kelleher set to continue in their absence. League leaders Liverpool can move four points clear with a win over Forest as City are not in action until Sunday while they can go five ahead of Arsenal, who play Sheffield United on Monday.

The Reds have already won the Carabao Cup while they have an FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester United to come as well as a Europa League last-16 tie against Sparta Prague.

Klopp added: “Until we get asked about four trophies, we don't think about it for one second. It's not important, we try to win the next game. Take it game by game. It's not a phrase journalists like too much but we can't do it differently."
