Meghan Markle’s close friend Tyler Perry has been blasted by fans following the release of his new Netflix film.

The 54-year-old actor and producer (who has a net worth of $1 billion) has been slammed for his new movie Mea Culpa. The romantic thriller - which stars Kelly Rowland and Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight) - landed on Netflix last week and fans have been left less than impressed.

Tyler is godfather to Princess Lilibet and famously welcomed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry into his home when the couple first moved to America in 2020 after leaving the Royal Family. The couple, along with baby Prince Archie, stayed at the Diary of a Mad Black Woman star’s Beverly Hills mansion for a few months before they moved into their Montecito home.

Back in 2022, the Emmy winner said he had been keen to open his home to Meghan and Harry to show his support. Speaking on NBC’s Today, he said: "These two people love each other. The love they have is really, really moving and I just wanted to do anything I could to support them.” He added: “What I know about the two of them, that I wish the world knew, is how much they love.”

Tyler - who also appeared in The Sussex’s bombshell documentary series - initially found fame as an actor before he turned his focus to directing and producing. However, his most recent project Mea Culpa has been slammed by fans on social media for its “boring” storyline and “cringe” acting.

On X, one unimpressed viewer wrote: “This movie is boring… #MeaCulpa.” Another added: “#MeaCulpa is the worst movie I’ve seen in a long time. The acting so terrible it was cringe to watch, the storyline so predictable and boring, what a waste of time.”

“#MeaCulpa has got to be the worst movie ever made,” a third added, while someone else wrote: “That movie was the worst movie ever #MeaCulpa.”

Tyler’s 18-rated flick - which has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 21% - follows a criminal defence attorney (Kelly Rowland) who agrees to defend a man who has been accused of murdering his girlfriend. The director has previously worked on The Single Moms Club, A Fall From Grace, and Nobody’s Fool.
