The Body Shop confirms another 75 shops will close in major blow for shoppers

The Body Shop will close a further 75 shops in another blow for shoppers, after the cosmetics chain collapsed into administration earlier this month.

The stores will all shut permanently in the next four to six weeks. As a result of the store closures, 489 staff will be made redundant. The Body Shop has already closed seven stores as part of its administration process, meaning 82 branches will have closed over the next few weeks.

However, administrators at FRP Advisory have announced that its remaining 116 shops will stay open. You can see which stores will close, and which ones are staying open, in the lists below. Tony Wright, joint administrator at FRP, said: “In taking swift action to right-size The Body Shop UK store portfolio, we have stabilised the business and are providing the best opportunity for this iconic brand to have a long-term, sustainable future. The UK business continues to trade in administration, and we remain fully focused on exploring all options to take the business forward.”

On top of shop closures, FRP previously confirmed around 270 head office jobs are being axed at The Body Shop, or around 40% of head office roles. The Body Shop has stores in more than 70 countries, but only the UK business is affected by the administration.

The Body Shop launched as a single store in Brighton by the late Dame Anita Roddick in 1976. But the business has struggled in recent years, with administrators blaming its collapse on "an extended period of financial challenges under past owners" and "a difficult trading environment" for the wider retail sector.

Dame Anita sold the company to L'Oreal for £652million in 2006, before it changed hands again to Brazilian beauty giant Natura in 2017 for £880million. It was most recently sold to European private equity firm Aurelius in late last year for £207million.
