As Cadbury hikes its prices, Brits are looking for cheaper ways to get their fix of Mini Eggs this Easter.

The chocolate giant came under fire after fans discovered a large bag of 1kg Mini Eggs will now set you back a staggering £17.50. Shoppers branded the inflation 'shambolic', arguing they spend a similar amount on a week's worth of food. Cadbury says the move was a 'last resort' as it blamed rising costs of ingredients such as sugar and cocoa.

But budget supermarket Aldi has stepped in, offering a cheaper alternative to the much-loved treats. The ALDI Mini Chocolate Eggs come in 80g packs (the same as Cadbury) but are 51p cheaper - priced at 99p. XL versions of the chocolates are also on the shelves, costing £1.11 per 100g, compared to Cadbury's price point of £1.88 per 100g. However, not everyone is convinced...

"Love Aldi chocolate in general! Their mini eggs are so much nicer than the Cadbury ones now the chocolate is just horrific in them," one person wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter). Another commented: "In other news... Aldi have their mini eggs in stock. Prefer them to the real ones." While a third added: "I bloody love mini eggs. Even the Aldi ones are [thumbs up]."

But, it's clear not everybody was impressed by the budget-friendly option, with one person branding them 'revolting'. "Tried them last week and had to spit it out," they added. Another wrote: "Aldi Mini Eggs are not good." While a Surrey Live reporter described them as 'distractingly hard to bite into'.

Earlier this week, a charity warned Cadbury Mini Eggs and similar alternatives could pose a serious choking hazard to kids. The Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) says the chocolates are the perfect size to block a child's airway, which means they could be difficult to dislodge if they become stuck.

"Their hard shell can make it difficult to dislodge with standard first aid techniques," the organisation said. "With whole grapes, we advise cutting them in half lengthways and ideally into quarters to create thin strips. But chopping up mini eggs isn't as easy. So, what can you do?"

CAPT suggests parents place the mini eggs into a sealable plastic bag and, using a rolling pin, 'smash them into small pieces'. Cadbury has previously advised parents that Mini Eggs are not suitable for children under the age of four.
