With spring nearly upon us, many homeowners will be looking forward to getting back into their gardens to enjoy the warmer weather and blooming flowers. However, it could also mean carrying out a few jobs first, such as weeding or trimming, to make sure everything is looking nice and prim outside.

For anyone with a few hedges in particular that need cutting back, one TikTok user from Australia posted a video showing how to deal with the often bulky leftovers that can be difficult to fit inside your garden wheelie bin. Especially when you have things like grass clippings to dispose of as well.

Nathan opened by saying: "One of the greatest gardening hacks you're ever going to see. Yes, some people know about this but there a lot that don't so we're going to go through it and show you how it works."

He could be seen mowing over hedge trimmings on a public pavement while commenting on the sped-up video, called ''Best Garden Hack Ever'. The gardener went on: "That massive pile there - I had to trim some hedges and it would have needed about two big green bins to fill. Most houses here in Australia only get allocated one so I would've had a bit of a problem."

"All I'm doing is setting the lawnmower on the highest setting and I'm just going back and forth, back and forth. In real-time this took me just under six minutes to do. Think about it, what are my other options? I would've had to drive it away to the local Greenway centre - there's an hour and a half of my life gone and I would have had to pay for it as well. Or I've got to stuff around and stick it on the garden bed or wherever.

The clever hack meant that all the shredded hedge trimmings could then fit into just one bin, with plenty of room left over. He explained: "So this will all be broken down into either a quarter or a green bin - that's pretty impressive - or two catches from my lawn mower that you're going to see right now."

Although Nathan - who has 2.1 million followers on his TikTok profile full of gardening tips - noted a couple of drawbacks to his method. These included potentially blunting your mower's blade "if you're running over thick stuff" or leaving marks on the concrete (that wash off with "a bit of rain"). Still, many TikTok users were impressed by the Australian's time-saving hack that works in whatever country you're in.

One commented: "Great tips for new players mate. one of our little secrets. great job tho mate," while another added: "Why I had never thought of this? those churned leaves will be instant compost in no time. Thank yuu very much for this video." A third praised the tip, adding: "Genius mate, thank for sharing."
