The Simpsons fans have once again spotted how an old episode of the classic cartoon predicted the future.

Writers for the long-running series have unwittingly written scenes about world events years before they actually occur in real life, including Donald Trump's presidency, the Titanic submersible disaster and British horse meat scandal. This time around, The Simpsons scene blowing everyone's minds is related to Wonka-gate - aka a disappointing £35 Willy Wonka experience that left children in tears.

Parents criticised the event, which took place in Glasgow, for being held in a "pitiful" and practically empty warehouse instead of the promised "enchanted garden containing giant sweets and mysterious sculptures". The families were expecting a paradise of sweets but were given just a handful of jelly babies. The event was so bad that police had to be called to the venue as it was shut down halfway through the first day.

In the wake of the dodgy Wonka experience trending on social media and capturing the nation's attention, an episode of The Simpsons from over 30 years ago is being revisited. In Bart's Inner Child, first broadcasted in 1993, Homer can be seen dreaming of opening his very own theme park, Homerland.

Much like the Wonka experience, Homerland doesn't offer much for its hefty price tag and Marge forces Homer to shut down his imaginary money-spinner due to so many children being injured. "They literally replicated this," one Twitter (X) wrote as they shared a clip of the episode when discussing comparisons to Wonka-gate. "The crazy part is that Homerland unironically looks 10x better," another Twitter user added, as a third argued: "Honestly I'd say this is worse. at least with HomerLand you can actually see how bad it is before you pay for it."

The organisers of the Wonka experienced, House of Illuminati, are now offering refunds to parents after complaints that the lacklustre day out brought their kids to tears. Police Scotland confirmed officers were called to the venue and issued guidance as crowds started to gather outside, reports Glasgow Live.

A House of Illuminati spokesperson said: "Today (Saturday February 24) has been a very stressful and frustrating day for many and for that we are truly sorry. Unfortunately, at the last minute we were let down in many areas of our event and tried our best to continue on and push through and now realise we probably should have cancelled first thing this morning instead. We fully apologise for what has happened and will be giving full refunds to each and every person that purchased tickets."

"We planned a fabulous event and it just did not take shape as planned and for that we are truly sorry, we are devastated at how this has turned out and understand people's anger and frustration that everyone has had, refunds have already started being issued and the rest should be over the coming days, again we are truly sorry to everyone."
