Sergio Aguero has denied claims that he is set to start training with Independiente and could ultimately come out of retirement.

The Manchester City legend retired from football in 2021 after he was diagnosed with a heart condition shortly after joining Barcelona. However, on a recent Twitch stream Aguero's cardiologist told him there was a chance he would be able to play football again.

After phoning his doctor, Aguero said: "People are asking me and well, I don't know... What do you think? How am I doing for 20 minutes of action? I don't know if it's 20, but ten?" The doctor then replied: "You won't have any problems playing for that long.

"Logically, we have to do the studies, which already correspond, and make you run as if it were a game... When you approach the two centre backs, if you have to do a trick, something like that, you have to be well prepared.

"So I would tell you to, 'get ready, there is hope' you could say. You have to get well, in a physical state for a few minutes [of action]. In short, it is possible." Following the stream, reports from the Argentinian media claimed Aguero was set to begin training with Independiente with a view to potentially playing professionally again.

Independiente are managed by Aguero's former teammate Carlos Tevez, who did admit he would love to have the forward in his squad. "Who doesn't want to have Kun? First me as a teammate, and now as a coach. Even if it's 10 or 15 minutes," he said.

However, Aguero has now poured cold water on the rumours, admitting he "would need to undergo a lot of tests" to even train again. "It's totally a lie, I'm not going to train with Independiente," Aguero said, as per ESPN.

"Sometimes things are invented. I reiterate that the cardiologist said that I am well, that it is important that I am in good health. But to return to training at the First Division level, I would need to undergo a lot of tests."

Aguero began his career at Independiente and he has admitted he did plan to return to the club after leaving Barcelona before his health problems forced him to hang up his boots.

"Yes, the idea was to be able to come for six months or a year," he said. "The idea was to play here and then hang up my boots, but that didn't happen."
