Jason Cundy walked out of the talkSPORT studio after being trolled savagely by callers following Chelsea’s defeat in the Carabao Cup final.

Cundy is a former Chelsea player and remains a fan of the club, who were downed by Virgil van Dijk’s late header in extra-time at Wembley on Sunday. He had to report for duty on talkSPORT’s Sports Bar programme on Monday night, knowing he would be the butt of the jokes from callers and co-host Jamie O’Hara.

After taking the banter on the chin, Cundy lost his head when a Liverpool fan sent in a voice note of her playing the violin. As O’Hara pressed play on the clip, he responded: “What is going on? What is happening here? What is happening here? Seriously? Is this a wind-up?”

He then ripped off his earphones and walked out of the studio, much to O’Hara’s amusement. “He’s walking out! Cundy’s left, he’s walked out. It’s amazing,” he informed the listeners. “Keep your calls coming in, we’ll try and get him back.”

The 54-year-old did return to his seat, but wasn’t spared from further callers, with one Maidstone fan describing Cundy’s Chelsea as a “disgrace” to the Premier League. Earlier on, the former centre-back had explained his miserable Monday after defeat in the cup final.

“I’ve been waiting for this all day. Can I just say, I’ve had a terrible day,” he said. “So I woke up this morning and I didn’t want to get out of bed. I didn’t want to, I just didn’t want to. Sometimes when you have a late night and you’ve had a few dreams, you wake up the next morning, you just want to stay in bed. Close the curtains. Close the blinds. Just hide away from the rest of the world.

“I went back to bed. I didn’t want to get out of bed. I couldn’t listen to talkSPORT all day. I could not listen to it. All day I’ve not had it on. I don’t want to be here. I love my job and I’m very lucky, right. Jay, I can think of a thousand places I’d rather be right now than sat here. I don’t want to be here.”

Chelsea lost at Wembley despite Liverpool missing a whole host of their best players due to injury. There was no Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez or Diogo Jota, but the Blues could not make the most of the opportunity.

Mauricio Pochettino ’s side could not find a way past the impressive Caoimhin Kelleher in goal and succumbed to Van Dijk’s header from a corner in the 118th minute, as penalties loomed. Chelsea were labelled “billion pound bottle jobs” by Gary Neville on commentary, with the former Manchester United defender annoyed the Blues didn’t push on in extra-time against Liverpool’s youthful side.
