Rochelle Humes speechless over connection to Corrie star's famous dad
Rochelle Humes recognised Coronation Street star Luca Toolan's famous father live on This Morning.
The ITV soap star appeared on This Morning to discuss the powerful bullying storyline that he's currently at the centre of. Luca stars as bully Mason who has been relentlessly tormenting Liam Connor, played by Charlie Wrenshall, for weeks.
Luca is the son of well-known radio DJ Mike Toolan who is known for spinning records on The Hits Radio with the help of former Emmerdale and Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson. Host Andi Peters asked Luca what his dad made of his debut acting role on Coronation Street.
"He loves it," Luca replied before Rochelle interrupted as she realised she knew the actor's father. "I know your dad!" Rochelle exclaimed. "Sorry, I didn't know it was that Mike!"
"When we were in [The Saturdays] we used to do radio tours and we always used to see your dad. Sorry, that took me by surprise," she added before Luca finishing answering: "[My dad] loves it, he's my number one fan."
Corrie's Sue Cleaver says I'm A Celebrity stint helped her to push boundariesLuca went on to admit he struggles to watch Coronation Street with his family because of the unkind character he's portraying. He said: "I can watch myself but I don't like to, not for reasons you'd expect like the self conscious actor. It's because I usually watch it with my family or my grandma and they're looking at me like, ‘Who is this? Am I sitting next to an animal? Because it is me doing these horrible things on the screen."
The actor's famous dad shares a close bond with his son and was thrilled to announce Luca's good news on his radio show when he landed the soap role. He told listeners: Luca "has been unveiled as the new baddie (Mason) on Coronation Street. Absolute dream come true for him. Liam McCheyne and all the amazing Corrie cast and crew have made him feel so at home."
The actor previously spoke about his experience joining the soap, saying: "It really is amazing. I feel very lucky because I've had Liam with me and he's been like an older brother to me, even though he's actually younger than me.
"He's such a nice dude and he's really walked me through everything, showed me where the teas are and the cups and what have you, and he's made it a lot easier. If I was going in on a storyline by myself, I feel like it'd be a lot more daunting, but everybody's so nice.
"I didn't know what to expect, but everybody's genuinely lovely." The actor confessed that he wouldn't be friends with his character Mason in real life, adding: "No! He's a lunatic. I would stay away from people like Mason."
