Netflix announce huge news for One Day fans after show's incredible success
Netflix agents are in talks to sign up One Day author David Nicholls’ new book - before it has even hit the shelves.
The streaming giant’s new adaptation of his 2011 best-selling novel has been watched by a staggering 15.2 million people since its release on February 8. And now fans can brace themselves for another serving of David’s trademark wit and gut-wrenching empathy with discussions of a second collaboration already in the works.
His new book, You Are Here, is released on April 23 and finds two lost souls thrown together on an epic coast-to-coast walk. A TV source said: “ Netflix bosses knew they were onto a winner with One Day but never predicted this level of success. They are already in the process of signing a new deal for David’s next release, which promises to be just as much of a tearjerker.”
One Day, starring Ambika Mod, 28, and Leo Woodall, 27, follows the lives of Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew, who meet for the first time on their last day as students at the University of Edinburgh in 1988. And it was revealed this week that author David wrote the screenplay for the penultimate episode of the 14-part series which left fans heartbroken.
The series has been a huge hit with Netflix viewers (Teddy Cavendish/Netflix)Netflix UK and Ireland account tweeted: “Fun fact: episode 13 of #OneDayNetflix (yes, that episode) was written by original author.” It added a quote from Nicholls himself, who said: “The great gift was having the actors in place, having watched them and heard their voices and intonations – a fusion of writing for Em and Dex and Ambika and Leo. Just bliss.”

The series follows the friendship of Emma and Dexter every year from 1988 until 2007. Viewers were left devastated in the 13th episode when Emma suddenly dies, three years after the couple finally get into a relationship - and the 14th and final episode sees Dexter battling to cope with his grief.
