A small number of Liverpool fans were left unable to enter Wembley due to ticketing issues ahead of Sunday afternoon's Carabao Cup final.

The showpiece final, which will be contested between the Reds and Chelsea, is expected to have over 80,000 fans in attendance. But a portion of Liverpool fans have failed to gain entry ahead of the match.

There were updates posted online outlining that digital tickets sent out by Liverpool were not working at the turnstiles shortly before kick-off.

The match is due to start at 3pm after the kick-off time was moved forward following a request from The Metropolitan Police, as outlined by reports last month. The final usually begins at 4:30pm.

One social media user revealed that the Wembley ticketing office was having to manually print out paper tickets for affected fans. it seems the issue is supporters downloaded a barcode instead of the QR code on their phones to gain access to the ground. The issue was experienced by some using Android devices.

Liverpool took to Twitter /X to try and provide a solution to the situation. A tweet from their official account read: "If your ticket is showing a barcode, please remove it from the wallet and re-download from the original email. The ticket should then show a QR code which will allow entry into the turnstile."

Sunday's match between the Reds and Chelsea - which is a repeat of the 2022 final - could prove to be Jurgen Klopp's final match after the German announced he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

Liverpool also beat Chelsea in the 2022 FA Cup final and bested their London rivals in the Premier League last month. Klopp, however, has insisted that will count for little when they lock horns again at Wembley.

Speaking his pre-match press conference, he said: "The result we had here [a 4-1 league win last month] doesn’t help, of course we have to play the game again and it’s like firing the opponent up slightly.

"The final is a completely different game, there’s no home ground obviously. We played them now a couple of times in a final and we know one part is blue and one is red. We know what our people are able to do, but the Chelsea people will be looking forward to it as well.

"But everybody knows, a final, there is no favourite, it starts at nil and for each little advantage you want to have, you have to work incredibly hard.

"The two Chelsea games in the finals [in 2022], I remember as two of the best draws I’ve ever been part of in my entire life because it was from a tactical point of view incredible, from an intensity point of view incredible, and then 0-0, 0-0 – strange one."
