There's good news on its way this March for millions of Galaxy smartphone owners with Samsung announcing a blockbuster free upgrade. The Korean technology company has just confirmed that it's bringing a swathe of clever AI features to devices including all of the Galaxy S23 range. That means if you an S23 or S23 Ultra in your pocket it's about to get smarter without you needing to upgrade to something new.

In fact, all of the updates include the new smart functions that have, until now, only been available on the latest Galaxy S24 which launched earlier this year.

So what's new, when will you get the upgrade and which devices are compatible?

This latest release from Samsung includes a raft of clever AI changes including Live Translation which can translate phone calls in real time. So, if you ring a hotel in Spain and don't speak a word of Spanish the device will automatically help you understand what's being said and vice versa.

Clever Circle to Search - which offers instant search results from Google when you circle something in a photo - is also now coming to more phones and should help speed up finding things online.

Note Assist is another useful function coming to more devices with this feature making your notes a little more exciting and easy to read. It will automatically format things and generate summaries.

If you want to make notes of a recent meeting, Transcript Assist will easily transcribe meeting recordings and generate summaries and translations.

Samsung's Galaxy camera is also getting a boost with the firm bringing Instant Slow-mo to extra phones. This can turn any video that's already been shot into a slow-motion movie.

Clever AI can also be used to edit photos including removing and moving objects without needing any Photoshop skills.

So which phones are getting it and when?

Samsung says the changes will start rolling out towards the end of March on devices such as Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold5, Z Flip5 and Tab S9 series.

"In January of this year we announced a new era of mobile AI with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series incorporating Galaxy AI. The performance to date has been extremely positive," said James Kitto Vice President and Head of MX Division, Samsung UK and Ireland.

"Our global mission is to make AI more accessible, and that’s why we’re proud to be announcing that Galaxy AI features will be made available across a range of Samsung mobile devices throughout 2024, and for us here in the UK that’s over 1.8 million customers who will receive a Galaxy AI update on their current Galaxy device.”
