Ian Wright has hailed Bukayo Saka as "the star" of Arsenal's resurgence after the in-form winger equalled his record for the club.

Saka scored for the fifth Premier League game in a row on Saturday, as the Gunners thrashed Newcastle 4-1 and kept themselves firmly in the title race. The last English player to achieve such a feat for Arsenal was Wright back in 1994. And having been shown the statistic while appearing as a pundit on Match of the Day, the ex-Gunners striker said: "Nice one, Saka. Like he says, all he wants to do is to carry on doing his stuff. He's the greatest. He's a star. He's the starboy, man."

Thanks to notching doubles against both West Ham and Burnley in recent weeks, Saka now boasts seven goals in his last five top-flight appearances. His superb form has coincided with Arsenal's improvement since their mid-season break in January, with Mikel Arteta's side winning every league game since and scoring 25 goals in the process.

Saka, 22, continues to personify the Gunners' upturn in form, with Arsenal now only one point behind reigning champions Manchester City and two adrift of league leaders Liverpool. There's recently been a debate over whether or not the England international is "world class," and Saka gave a typically humble response to the chatter after downing Newcastle.

"No comment," he laughed when speaking to TNT Sports. "I am happy with another goal today and more importantly happy to win. I am working hard every day and giving my best. Obviously I have great teammates giving me good passes which helps as well. We have been working hard and there is a lot of quality going forward and it is starting to click now - we just need to continue with this [form]."

Arteta's message was along the same lines, telling his players: "You can always improve, you can always get better and have players back, the more players we have back, more competition within the team, more alternatives, more players to impact the game and especially believe that we can do it." The Gunners next face bottom side Sheffield United away from home before hosting Brentford. Then it's the chance to turn their Champions League last-16 tie around, having lost 1-0 in Porto on Wednesday.
