BBC Breakfast's Charlie Stayt 'fuming' as Naga Munchetty makes awkward dig

BBC Breakfast fans reckon Charlie Stayt was 'fuming' when Naga Munchetty made an awkward dig during a discussion about mansplaining today.

The pair were discussing female golf pro Georgia Ball, whose viral clip, in which she was criticised by a male golfer has been watched more than 10 million times. Viewers have accused the unseen observer of mansplaining (the explanation of something by a man, typically to a woman, in a manner regarded as condescending) during the "awkward" exchange and commended Georgia for being so polite through the whole encounter.

Talking about the viral video, Naga, 48, quipped: "Don't give people advice unless you're asked." With one eyebrow raised, Charlie asked: "You're giving people advice?" However, Naga simply smirked and said: "Just saying", leaving Charlie, 61, looking considerably cross.

It's not the first time Naga has ruffled feathers on the famous red sofa. This week, the Strictly Come Dancing star labelled a guest's comment "patronising", forcing them to apologise.

Naga and co-anchor Charlie led the programme on Thursday (February 22) as the show focused on medications running low across the country, leaving many in need resorting to desperate measures. While there have always been shortages in medicines for conditions such as asthma, ADHD and diabetes, in recent years, the focus has now shifted to epilepsy drugs, which are also dwindling.

Leader of the Epilepsy Trust Claire Pelham said drug manufacturers agreed during Brexit preparations to maintain a six-week rolling stock to prevent medication depletion. However, she expressed her suspicion without strong evidence, saying: "What we suspect, it's a suspicion, not evidence, is that they've reverted to just-in-time delivery now."

Claire explained that this might have been done as a cheaper alternative. But when asked what people could do right now, she suggested: "For the individual person, the most important thing is not to become stressed and to try and keep calm and plan ahead." However, Naga quickly quipped that her advice could come across as patronising, which prompted an instant apology from Claire, who said: "No, because I want to aid with this,"

Last month, viewers were confused when the presenter wasn't seen on BBC Breakfast for three weeks. Naga usually hosts the show with Charlie from Thursday to Saturday every week. But several other presenters stood in for Naga, including Sally Nugent and Nina Warhurst, who returned in January after a six-month maternity leave following the arrival of her third child. Finally, earlier this month, Ms Munchetty found her way back to the studio, but the reason behind her unexpected time away remains unknown.
