A man who spent a whopping £5,000 on a hair and eyebrow transplant in Turkey says he's delighted with the results.

William Jace Rain grew up “hating” his naturally frizzy hair and spent hours flat ironing his locks each morning until they were completely straight – but then he started forming a receding hairline. The 32-year-old tried to style his thin strands to hide his hairline and widow’s peak. And after deciding enough was enough and looked for a permanent solution, Mr Rain came across hair transplant surgery on TikTok.

William, a sales lead, has now forked out an eye-watering $6,000 (£4,700) on getting his head and eyebrows pricked with tiny needles in a bid to spark hair growth – and says it’s been the best decision of his life. He said: “My first reaction [after seeing my new hairline] was shocking, to say the least. I looked like Uncle Fester from The Addams Family.

“But I’m really happy with the results. Growing up, I had nice hair and didn’t think much of it until I started to get older. In my teens, it became very frizzy and wild – and I noticed my eyebrows were scanty while I tried to awkwardly grow facial hair. My ‘evil villain’ hairline was something I hated too and I was very hard on myself about it.”

William, from California, US, went through the procedure in May 2023 and said the process was a four out of 10 on the pain scale – but his eyebrows were an eight. The surgery was carried out in Turkey, with the overall cost covering flights, treatment and a hotel.

He had an initial consultation over WhatsApp, before being placed on a strict diet and was then shown a demonstration of the surgery to come. The method, called follicular unit extraction, aims to produce a fuller hairline and thicker locks using “donor” follicles from parts of the body with the most growth.

He said: “I remember thinking to myself how ironic it was that on the day of surgery, I felt like I was having a good hair day. Then came the sad moment my good hair day was doomed as they shaved my head entirely. It was amusing getting to choose which eyebrow shape I wanted and I had a little laugh trying on the different ones. I was so comfortable throughout and I even dozed off.”

The procedure took up to eight hours and he shared the experience on TikTok – racking up 1.3 million views and over 50,000 likes. In the clip, he shows his face right after surgery, which is bruised around his eyes and covered in ink-like dots.

He continued: “Did I need a hair transplant? And an eyebrow transplant? Probably not.” William didn’t expect the amount of bruising – but says it’s important to trust the process. Now, social media users have flocked to share their reactions, with many people intrigued.

Amber said: “Are your eyebrows gonna just keep growing really long,” Another user added: “Ngl the yellow kinda serving if it were makeup.” [sic] “Wait what! Eyebrows? No way!” Kelly commented. Stefanie added: “Looks so painful but be happy you got free make up to.” [sic] "This is gonna get so funny when in a few months/years thin eyebrows get in style again,” someone else said. [sic]

William added: “I’ve never known anyone to go through this before. Some nights I experienced some nerve pain afterwards and felt a bit sleep deprived as I felt paranoid about messing up my hair – but then it became more manageable. I have to leave cutting my hair, including my eyebrows, for a while and currently I’m braiding them.

"I’m so happy with how it’s turning out though and my advice is, if it will make you happy; then do it. I was told I was too young by so many, but age doesn’t matter. And most importantly, brace yourself to be very itchy – it’s worth it though.
