Tricky Who Wants To Be A Millionaire question that won contestant the jackpot
If you can answer this question correctly, you could have had a shot at £1 million.
Who Wants to be a Millionaire? is one of the most popular quiz shows on telly, and it's one that many Brits will have considered applying to be on so they can have their shot at winning a life-changing sum. To date, only six people have ever walked away with the top prize, and after Judith Keppel became the first person to win the show in 2000, David Edwards scooped up the prize the following year, becoming the second person to do so.
But before he could walk away with £1 million, he had to answer 15 gruelling questions, including one very tricky final puzzle that ultimately won him the money. Could you answer it?
Here's the question David answered correctly to win himself £1 million: "If you planted the seeds of Quercus Robur, what would grow?" In true Who Wants To Be A Millionaire style, he was then given four options to choose from. They were:
- A. Trees
- B. Flowers
- C. Vegetables
- D. Grain
Do you know what the answer is? If you can answer it correctly, you could have had a shot at a life-changing sum of money just like David did all those years ago. When he answered it on the show, he had no lifelines remaining after having used all three - phone-a-friend, 50:50, and ask the audience - on his £125,000 question.
Jeremy Clarkson faces Meghan backlash as 3 female stars won't go on MillionaireBut even with nothing to help him, David still managed to get the answer right and didn't back out, choosing to go for a shot at £1 million instead of walking away with £500,000. Would you have picked the same answer that he did?
The correct answer to the question was A, Trees.
If that question was too easy for you, then why not try your hand at this Who Wants To Be A Millionaire question from 2020? The question was posed to retired doctor Andrew Townsley who was in with a shot at becoming the sixth person to scoop up the jackpot when he made it all the way to the million pound question - but he chose to walk away with the £500,000 instead of answering it.
After deciding he wouldn't be answering the question, host Jeremy Clarkson then asked him what he would have said if he'd been forced to answer. Devastatingly, Andrew said he would've picked the option that was the correct answer and therefore would have won him £1 million.
