A woman has told how she got ‘petty revenge’ after her engagement party was hi-jacked by her ‘scheming’ half-sister. After admitting the half-siblings, who were both 24 years old, never really got along, she revealed how her father had left her mother for her half-sister’s mother, with both girls born in the same month, only 20 days apart.

She also told how the relationship with her half-sister, Heather, had ‘always been weird’ saying: “She has always tried to one-up me, even though we both have a similar economic background.”

After she announced her engagement to her fiancé last month, she revealed that she and her husband-to-be had planned a party to celebrate: “It was originally a casual-formal event. Nice dresses, but not ‘I am going to the met gala ball’ nice. More like ‘we are going to a good restaurant’ nice.”

However, while looking forward to their forthcoming party, she told how she’d received a ‘bridal bombshell’ from her cousin, who sent her a link to the dress her half-sister was planning on wearing.

She said: “This dress... Jesus Christ. It can only be described as opulent. It was long and white. Strapless with sewn-in crystals and golden accents. I'm pretty sure it's a wedding dress, but I can't be 100 percent.”

After admitting the picture made her ‘really mad’ she decided to take her petty revenge, texting everyone who was coming with her ‘change of plans’.

“I told them all, that instead of casual formal, I had decided to make it a fancy dress party. My mother's side is crazy for Halloween, so they were immediately on board. I told my father via text, and asked for him to relay the message to Heather and her mother, knowing full well that he would forget, or leave it to the last minute.”

She then told how, on the night, guests started showing up in costumes, while those who didn’t have time to get one were given: ‘fun hats and cheap wigs.’

She said: “Heather, my dad and her mother came like one hour late. As soon as Heather noticed that everyone was either wearing elaborate costumes or weird accessories, and she didn't stand out, she lost it.” She also admitted that her fiancé had told her that her wedding dress ‘looked amazing for a cheap costume.’

After revealing Heather had then left the event crying, she told how her father had told her she was being childish: “He said I could have told Heather myself.” She confessed she had ‘no regrets’ about her sartorial decision, adding: “I decided I’d rather subvert the whole mess rather than have her smugly sitting at the table wearing her wedding dress.”

Her ‘sibling showdown' sent Reddit readers into a frenzy, with many applauding her for her last-minute change of plan: “The cherry on top of this delicious revenge sundae is how you used your father's general shitty-ness to work in your favour. Absolutely brilliant.”

One said simply: “How to spot the narcissist,” while many others loved the input from her fiancé: “Definitely a keeper. After the wedding, marry him again,” said one, while another said: “Relationship goals: find someone who'll kick your enemies when they're down.”

One said: “I can't imagine what Heather will wear to the wedding,” while another reader advised she would probably wear the same dress to her wedding too: “May I suggest a Renaissance Faire theme?”
