David Jason's shock U-turn with Only Fools and Horses Del Boy comeback
Only Fools and Horses fans have some 'cushty' news as Del Boy is set to make a highly-anticipated return to our screens.
Sir David Jason, 84, has agreed to film as the Only Fools and Horses character once again for a brand new show. It will be the first time Sir David brings the iconic character back to life in years. The move comes just weeks after David addressed if the wheeler-dealer could ever make a comeback.
He admitted he would jump at the chance to reprise the role after first hitting screens back in 1981. Some fans urged the star to leave it in the past, and when asked if their was a possibility of a reunion he quipped: "It wouldn't work." Yet, it has now been reported Sir David will take on Del Boy once more.
He will don the character for the new series of motoring show Car SOS. Host Tim Shaw said: “David was a special guest on an episode and I managed to persuade him to do Del Boy again. It’s a sketch that I think will surprise people," he told the Daily Star. "It was one of the highlights of my life."
Tim added that it was something he "never thought would happen" and seeing Sir David as Del Boy was "surreal". He explained he was able to "drop straight into" the role as he read the newspaper and sold car parts on eBay. Sir David will join hosts Tim and Fuzz Townshend for a special episode of Car SOS.
John Cleese to star in new series of Fawlty Towers alongside his daughterIn the upcoming series, Sir David will lend a hand in restoring a Datsun 240k Skyline, promising another heartwarming surprise for a lucky individual. The bosses of the show, which will air on National Geographic from March 7, are hopeful that the Only Fools and Horses star will bring in high ratings.
A source shared to the Daily Star: "David is going to be a special guest on the new series. It's a big deal to have him on the show because he's such a legend. Producers were absolutely thrilled when he agreed to take part." The insider continued: "David is one of the nation's most popular stars, so getting him involved is bound to boost viewing figures."
The star recently fronted new DIY show Touring Toolshed with Jay Blades on the BBC. However, things turned rather tense in a recent episode as Jay walked off screen after Sir David made digs about his barrel-making skills. He recently joined Jay for an interview where he was asked about his Only Fools and Horses role.
The pair were discussing their BBC2 show and the conversation eventually led to the chances of a new series of Only Fools and Horses. Jay said: "Oh, I’d love that. I want to be in it. I could be a long-lost nephew." Sir David responded: "You’d be long, long, long lost if you appeared in it. I’ve had offers over the years."
A return to Peckham wouldn't really be plausible. The main writer of the hit TV series, John Sullivan, tragically passed away in 2011. Sir David went on: "But without John, it just wouldn’t work. He was a magician and could whip up humour out of virtually nothing – that was his genius. Without him, I don’t see it working, sadly."
