A groom-to-be has shared his devastation after his mum told him she is leaving his wedding reception early to throw another party. The pair fell into a blazing row over the parents' unexpected decision, which resulted in the man uninviting them from the whole day.

Since then, the mum has been slammed for trying to "sabotage" her son's wedding after he shared his story online. He explained the background: "Me and my girlfriend just got engaged after almost nine years of dating and are planning on having our wedding in spring of next year. With this we have begun planning the wedding and one of the topics that came up was if we want kids at our wedding.

"We are both the oldest kids/cousins in our family and with this have had multiple little kids at every major event in our lives. We decided that we do not want young kids (under 10) to attend the reception as we want to have a more adult style of reception."

His mum was unhappy with her son's choice - so much so that will instead make a premature exit to throw a party for the families with young children who've had to leave early. The post read: "There are three families that are invited that have kids under 10 with a total of 7 kids under 10 years old. Me and my fiancé were expecting at least one of the parents if not both from each family to leave early to take care of their kids and were completely ok with this as they have other responsibilities to tend to.

"Now my mother is saying that her and my step dad will be leaving early so that they can throw a separate celebration at their house so that the people that are forced to leave since they have kids have somewhere to go and can still have a good time." On top of this, he claims the mum is actively encouraging guests from her side of the family - around 50 out of 125 invitees - to forgo the reception in favour of her party.

A "heated argument" between the mum and son ensued. He went on: "It ended with me saying 'You are choosing to throw a "celebration" at the same time as our reception against our wishes," and that "if you are going to leave early because you feel it is the "right thing to do" you can just not worry about coming to the wedding in the first place.'"

The upset man is now finding it "very difficult" to accept his mum's planned actions because he has always imagined that his parents would be there on his wedding day. But he and his partner are adamant that if she if going to leave early and try to take other guests as well then they do not want her there.

Reddit users rallied around the poster and accused the "crazy" mum of trying to wreck his special day. One wrote: "Your mother in intentionally trying to sabotage your wedding out of spite because you don’t want children at your wedding." Another added: "Don’t even bother inviting them. If they can’t respect your day, they shouldn’t even be considered."

The price of weddings can be exorbitant, though, and one user suggested a potential silver lining to his predicament: "Think of it as an opportunity to save some money. Don’t invite any of your mum's friends or distant relatives that you think will go to your mum's party. Heck have a much smaller wedding."
