Jordan North seemed to receive a little help from a famous friend after quickly securing a new job at Capital.

The DJ left his BBC drive time show without saying goodbye last week but soon got a big career lift after Jordan was announced as the new host of Capital radio’s breakfast show, taking over from Roman Kemp.

And it seems some friends he has in high places may have put in a good word. He will be reunited with his former Radio 1 colleague Chris Stark, who was a big "help" to the new arrival. Chris will be joining him on the morning show alongside Sian Welby after Roman announced his exit from Global on Monday's show.

Chris posted a welcome to Jordan on Instagram, celebrating the fact his pal was joining the team. Alongside a photo of the two hugging it out, DJ Chris wrote: "Welcome along lad." His reply was interesting, writing back: "Mate, I can’t wait to get started. Thank you for all your help and support over the past few months, wouldn’t be here without you!"

By the time Jordan's departure was announced he had already presented his last episode of the drive time show, alongside co-host Vick Hope, albeit unaware. A source said there were tensions running high for a few months surrounding Jordan’s departure after he let producers know he wanted to go.

“Conversations were going back and forth between Jordan’s people and the top people at the BBC for months, and over time they deteriorated. Once he formally requested to leave, that was it – he was off air, immediately. It’s a shame it ended on such a bad note after 10 years," the insider said.

On Wednesday morning, host Roman introduced Jordan to the Capital Breakfast audience, saying: “You are going to absolutely love this Jordan. I have so much faith in you mate. It’s hard leaving, it feels like your child, but you want it to go into good hands and I know with you it’s going to be just that. Everyone, send as much love as possible to Jordan.”

Addressing his exit on Instagram, Jordan said: "I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all my wonderful colleagues / talented producers at Radio 1 who many I consider to be friends for life and will miss greatly, you’ve all reached out to me over the past 24 hours and it really has meant a lot.

"To my amazing fellow presenters I wish I could thank you all personally, I’ve loved working with you it’s been an absolute blast! Big love to Katie Thisleton, Greg James, Arielle Free, Ricky, Melvin & Charlie, Dean & Vicky, Clara Amfo, Matt & Molly, Scott Mills, Grimmy, all the rest of you fantastic lot, and of course my partner in crime Vick Hope…I’ll miss being on air with you every day."

Jamie Laing will step in and takes over and former Radio 1 star Nick Grimshaw says Jordan's exit is the BBC's loss - and Capital FM's gain. He told the Mirror: "I love Jordan, I always have. He is so funny and so good at his job. When you meet certain people, you know they're meant to do that job. He can't help but be funny. I think he'll be very missed, but Jamie is loved too. He does about 45 podcasts!

"What makes people good on the radio is when they're their genuine selves, when they share their life and really open up. They're the DJs I always love. When people are just themselves, the audience love that. That's why everyone adored Steve Wright - he was himself. It's good to remember that."

Mirror Online has reached out to Jordan's reps for comment.
